Off topic but you can't compare minimum wage statistics between countries, all things aren't equal. The cost of living isn't the same. There might be a 20% difference in minimum wage but a 35% difference in cost of living, so you're money doesn't go as far (isn't worth as much).

US and Australia: $7.25 and $16.88, respective minimum wages from the source listed.^^

Cost of Living: Cost Of Living Comparison Between United States And Australia...or check any source.

Indices Difference
Consumer Prices in Australia are 47.52% higher than in United States
Consumer Prices Including Rent in Australia are 52.58% higher than in United States
Rent Prices in Australia are 63.79% higher than in United States
Restaurant Prices in Australia are 51.57% higher than in United States
Groceries Prices in Australia are 32.70% higher than in United States
Local Purchasing Power in Australia is 20.45% lower than in United States

An example using numbers: "Let’s take a look at the cost of food. It is estimated that each adult in the U.S. spends an average of $170 – $200 per month on food, or $740 per month for a family of four with children. The average monthly cost in Australia for the same sized family is $1,200 per month, which is considerably higher than in the United States."--a travel site

When you do the math, that $7.25 will go farther here than that $16.88 will there.

Some people actually believe that side by side comparisons of nations actually work and are meaningful.
