I don't like the approach this team went with on defense. They focused solely on improving the coverage but that wasn't the only issue. The d-line did a piss poor job consistently beating the men in front of them.

Looking at the depth chart, the pass rush is way too reliant on a number of the young guys improving. Especially Beasley. With the upcoming schedule, it wouldn't surprise me if that plan blows up in the front offices faces. You're not beating Green Bay, Seattle, Arizona, etc with a meh pass rush. Doesn't matter how much better this team is in coverage.
What did they do to improve coverage?

Shelby, Beasley, Jarret, and Clayborn on pass rushing downs is solid. This draft had a very weak pass rush class. There would be outrage right now had we taken shaq lawson because of his surgery. A rookie wouldn't solve the pass rush and you definitely don't want to overspend in free agency.

I'll take a revamped linebacker core when our biggest weakness was rb and tight end receiving yards. 7th in hurries means we are getting there but our backers can't cover at all. It makes complete sense how we handled this offseason.

This draft was loaded with defensive tackles and they didn't even take one :martin:

Edge rush wasn't the only issue with the front four. With Hageman taking snaps at DE, not drafting one doesn't make much sense. I wouldn't be concerned if we had just one legit DT on the roster. Babs is still the best DT and he's solid.

The LB corp has more bodies but I need to see them in action before I can speak highly of them. Can't be any worse than last season.

What did they do to improve coverage?
They spent three early picks on bolstering the middle of the defense. I'm just assuming they've improved. Still too early to know though.

Your right I should have clarified DE. There were a lot of dtackles but I think with babs, Hageman, and Jarret the draft pick would have been a rotational guy. The Alabama dts for example were more run stuffers imo. This being a make or break year for Hageman, I think we address the d.line next draft as well as a wr early.

I think Shelby will surprise. I like his tape last season. The best thing about the d.line this year tho is no more kroy:scust:
