I don't think they wanna do that. I think they just wanted to guarantee those 163rd game moments.

I was telling @mastermind though that the 2nd wild card actually hurt things in the AL. Yankees /O's /A's/Rangers all bunched up and one of em would have had to be knocked out. Instead they're all in (though in fairness, Baltimore and Texas would have needed to play this game anyway to break their tie for the wild card anyway-- it just counts as a playoff appearance for the O's and Rangers now)
and my reply is that it was great in the NL. You cant use one year, and one league at that, to judge the effectiveness of this.

IN saying that, a best 2 out 3 is the best solution, imo. The Braves may be better than the Cards but there is too much chance in one game.

what do you define as variance ? in statistical sense, yes, but thats cuz there are so many games and you have different pitchers starting....

whereas we can discuss variance in terms of value of one play to outcome....one mistake in soccer or football (but soccer especially) could mean /affect the outcome far more than any one mistake in baseball

doesnt hurt nfl playoffs or world cup :manny:

How often does the worst team beat the best team in those sports? Then compare that to baseball. The royals can beat the yankees in one game, no big deal. In soccer, if Egypt beats Brazil in one game, well....

i know im supposed to, but i have no animosity towards the braves anymore. the mets haven't had a real strong rivalry with them in a long time. in fact, for the past 3 years i havent given a fukk about any of my "rivals" b/c they weren't holding the mets back from anything but sucking slightly less. ... still dont like any Phillies though.

Variance, in this case, at least to me, is the probability of the best team winning.

Baseball is the lowest of all the major sports...and the more games you play in a series, the more often it happens

I mean, I agree that it should be 3 games...

...but this isn't really a good argument against it. It's not like one bad break/missed call/bloop single/etc is costing them this game...they're getting severely outplayed.

It's not so much being outplayed as they're just playing incredibly sloppy baseball. For the best defensive team in the game they look like the Mets

Yankee fans discussing this like they wouldn't be bytching about it if the O's won the East

If the Lakers/Sixers was a single game, Iverson would be regarded as one of the best to ever do it.

I think the 2nd wild card is gay and they're only doing it because they hated how the Yankees and Red Sox would run away with the division /wild card and play the whole month of September like Spring Training.

Same here I don't even hate Chipper, a matter of fact...I'm kinda disappointed to see him having such a poor game.
