I mean, aside from a CDL (not even in all cases) it is not a job that required a skill/trade to do so its understandable and expected to be physically and mentally taxing since neither were needed to get the job.

:yeshrug:
well yeah but it's considerably more taxing than other entry level jobs like the other guy said

My uncle use to me that Garbage men use to be jobs reserved for white people because of the pay, then job and social status started to be big and it slowly shifted toward being more of a black people thing in alot of area's (pay is still good)

I also heard that its really hard to get into and you have to be on point as far as attendance

and someone said 100k is peanuts in NYC, it's really not

that's a very comfortable salary, if you live within your means
It's good money in NYC.. Maybe not if you're trying to live the Manhattan lifestyle, but if you want a house in a good neighborhood, good spending money, good food, private schools for kids...assuming you have some amount of dual income...its nice

I thought it was one of the first good jobs that it was common for black men to get

I'm not picky at all, I'd be fine with a 1 BR apartment as long as it's close to Manhattan and not cockroach infested. So with 100k a year I'd definitely live well.

Yeah it is. The DSNY,NYPD and FDNY have some of the cushiest jobs. I know people who have 60 credits in the NYPD and passed a few tests and earn anywhere from 120-150k with OT as POs,Detectives and Sergeants in under 8 years. There's a lot of black folks in the PD cakin, not to many in the FDNYand quite a few in Sanitation

Thats great. Theyre people who do a hard ass job, that involves heavy lifting and dealing with atrocious smells and sights all day. They kind of deserve it.

You can make a nice living in Jersey, my former football teammate from highshool did sanitation instead of going to college, he was making 75k doing runs in the bricks, now he's a private contractor for medical waste disposal and he makes 300k easy.

Nyc sanitation makes so much money it's not even funny. That shyt is wild hard to get into unless you know someone in it. shyt is run by cacs so you know how it go. They keep the good paying jobs in their circle and you gotta be extremely lucky to get that job if you don't know anyone.

Nah it's a lottery almost 25 thousand people a year apply for it. my father retired from sanitation a few years ago and my brother passed the test but didn't get picked out of the lottery

Knowing someone only helps you once you're already in
