Heyman fukked over a lot of wrestlers with that non payment shyt. Owed RVD $150,000, Shane Douglas $145,000, Tommy Dreamer $100,000, Joey Styles $50,480, Rhyno $50,000, and Francine $47,275 :picard:

ECW's bankruptcy is really instructive for any indie guys/company that wants to make it big, and not only because of Paul's lack of accounting prowess, which was always overstated, by the way. For all the carny nonsense Heyman pulled, ECW was $7 Million in the hole when he filed for bankruptcy, and the company was actually on a commercial upswing when they died. Really more like $4 Million, when you take into account money they should have been paid by Acclaim and In Demand ("accounts receivable" are two of the most dangerous words in business. Paul actually told a story on Steve Austin's podcast about the head of In Demand telling him to his face right before they closed up shop that he'd rather take his chances with the bankruptcy lawyers than pay ECW the $2.8 Million they were owed from their pay-per-view revenue. According to Paul, that was literally the money they needed to stay alive and get a new TV deal). Now compare that to TNA/Impact Wrestling, who have probably had multiple years losing over $7 Million and have never had the commercial success ECW had while having an energy billionaire funding them. But yeah, all upstart promotions should learn from ECW's mistakes and never let themselves get into the position they were in before they died.

I do think it's telling that, despite Paul owing them ridiculous amounts of money and doing all sorts of cowardly shyt near the end (not NEARLY bad as some other promoters, though), most of them ended up working with Paul again in some capacity. Maybe there's truth to the whole 90 days story he tells in his DVD, maybe it's just the wrestling business. But it is very interesting.

Tommy Dreamer made out pretty damn well in the aftermath of this, given that he was Johnny Ace's number two for a few years in talent relations.

Heyman and Dreamer (with Vince overlooking) basically set up the first ECW One Night Stand PPV. That where the infamous Vince line "TELL SABU TO fukk SABU!
full
" came from too.
