Austin kinda sucked in ‘02. I say this as someone who has him as a top 5 wrestling GOAT. Dude’s act got stale and he was no longer capable of putting on good matches
Well he got hurt by Booker T at King of the Ring..he was on borrowed time.

Not kinda, After he turned face again SS in 01 dude was never back as hot as he was before. Idk exactly what it was but the fact that he wasn’t feuding with anyone of note certainly played a big part.

He had that mini feud with Booker T at the end of 01’. Everyone remembers the supermarket attack. Book even cost him the Undisputed title in a cage match on Raw with Jericho and it never even resulted in them having a match on PPV or tv for that matter. The feud went exactly nowhere.

Spring 2002 was fukking WEIRD man....Austin wasn't lying when he spoke on how bad creative was getting
The Brock situation was the last nail in a trash ass coffin that had been brewing for weeks at that point

You know how some people have so much money and they don't know what do with it?

WWE had so much talent in 2002 post-WCW & ECW and they didn't know what to do with it. They just threw everything at the wall to see what stuck. On paper it should've been the GOAT year but it wasn't. They did get better after SummerSlam '02 though.

Stone Cold never had a bad match. That's literally why he's the #1 GOAT.:gucci:

I think Stone Cold shone brightest when the talent he's carrying actually follows his lead properly.

Man, the only WWE product I've watched was the one and only single episode he featured on at the beginning of the Rona. The ratings haven't been higher since that day this year I'd bet.:blessed:

What?:mjtf:

I haven't watched wrestling properly since 2004 n came back when CM Punk was doing his thing and when he dipped I dipped. I'm not invested in WWF/E like that but to say Stone Cold isn't the greatest African American wrestler of all time is a farstretch. He did more for us than Farooq.:wow:

I'm halfway kidding with that last statement but don't lie, you know damn well that Steve is the #1 wrestler of all time.:hubie:

Austin was insecure, but Austin jobbing to Lesnar clean in an unannounced match on RAW was absolutely stupid then and still is stupid today.

Looking back at that KOTR, they could have easily put Austin at the other side of the bracket and have him face Lesnar at the PPV and put him over there. Wonder what the fukk they were thinking in trying to put that match on a random RAW

Yeah idk either. And there actually was a little set up for them to have a match anyway, but they should have put Austin in the KOTR and had the finals be Brock vs Austin with Brock going over en route to going to Summerslam to beat Rock.

He was stale and burned out for sure. I'm sure that feud with Eddie wouldn't have really helped Eddie, much like the Austin/Booker feud, Austin would have just run through him for 2-3 months and moved on (and probably Benoit, too). I think doing the Brock/Austin match at KOTR, having Brock go over, and then giving Austin time off would have been the best move. He could have come back at Survivor Series or maybe even string it all the way out to the Rumble and have him as surprise with no hype or hints ahead of time.

Could have kicked of Rock/Austin 3 from there and had the WM 19 match and he could have quietly retired from there without that 9 months of getting buried on TV anytime he was mentioned.
