He's crossed the line now
Fresh off of his UFC 253 title fight win over Paulo Costa this past weekend, Adesanya has seemingly turned his attention fully to Jones. Although Adesanya mentioned at Saturday’s post-fight press conference that Jared Cannonier and Jack Hermansson are likely next for a championship opportunity at 185 pounds, much of his social media activity has been directed at Jones – and vice versa.

Jones went on a lengthy Twitter tirade on Wednesday that prompted Adesanya to respond, specifically to a tweet in which Jones questioned whether Adesanya’s own father was confident that “The Last Stylebender” could beat Jones.

Adesanya replied on Twitter that his father has already told him he’ll defeat Jones, and then he added that Jones’ mother—who died in 2017—“would be disappointed in who you’ve become.”
That comment set off another run of tweets by Jones on Thursday. He brought up his financial, family, and career success, then shrugged off the suggestion that his mother would be disappointed in him.

“My mother was an amazing humanitarian,” Jones wrote. “I know for a fact that the [C.A.R.E. Project, a charitable foundation founded by Jones] makes her more proud than anything I’ve done in the UFC.

“Thanks for giving me the opportunity to highlight my amazing mother this afternoon, now I’m just missing her. Are we still on for 2021?”

Dana White calls Jon Jones vs. Israel Adesanya 'the fight to make' after Twitter war

The feud between Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya has kicked into high gear in recent days, and it’s resonating with UFC president Dana White.

Although plenty of words have been exchanged – verbally and over social media – in recent years, the rivalry between Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) and Adesanya (20-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) has reached a new level since the middle champion’s successful title defense against Paulo Costa at UFC 253 this past month.

An endless stream of Twitter insults has been ongoing, with the fighters taking shots at each other’s skills, personal lives and even bringing family into the equation. It’s all building toward what feels like an inevitable clash, and White said he’s on board with it.
“That’s the fight to make, 100 percent,” White told UFC Arabia on Friday. “I think that a fight between those two is massive.”

Jones has not looked dominant in a long time. People bring up his wrestling, but he struggled with a one legged (torn ACL) Thiago Santos. He hasn’t been the same since they banned his turinabol. I’m not saying I’m picking Israel, but it’s a competitive fight.

Before anyone calls 'bias', let me start this off by saying I've picked Jones to win comfortably against Izzy previously.

Jon Jones is a horrible match up for Izzy. He will need a few title defenses against elite wrestlers before he can make a step up to LHW.

As it stands, he would get submitted.
He would have a very slight edge on the feet which would be nullified by threat of Jon taking him down.

Now, I think this fight is a lot closer. Izzy is pretty much improving after each fight now. Jones has plateaud and is possibly already on the decline. Izzy has a smart team behind him. They knew he wasn't ready for Jon when the fight started getting mulled. Even now, the fight might be too soon for him, but by next year this fight will be a serious possibility.

If the fight were to happen today, I still think Jones wins, but it will be close. I saw a career middleweight in Santos give Jon all that he could handle, and he shut out, but could not finish, another career middleweight in Anthony Smith. Izzy is more accomplished than both, and if you take it back to his kickboxing days has fought at heavyweight before.

Jon's size will be problematic, but he will make it very competitive with speed and movement. I think there will be a point where Izzy eventually surpasses Jon, and that's when the team will push to make the fight. They may wait it out to see how Jon performs at HW before pushing for it.

I think jon can hold him in the standing clinch. His main advantage

I cant really imagine how the fight goes after that point. Holding Izzy on the fence dirty boxing for a 3-2 decision or something?

Jon Jones would kill him. :mjlol:

3-5 years ago for sure, but Jones is definitely not the same guy off the t-bol. He didn’t come close to “killing” Santos and arguably lost to Reyes. These two are close to middleweight size and are not world beaters. He struggled to take them down and grapple, and it’s very clear that Adesanya is a better striker than Jones.
