No. Everyone in America could live in Texas and have more than enough space. People really don't understand how many open spaces there are in this country. Take a road trip through the country and see how open and expansive it is.
Most Americans live in areas more dense than if we all lived in Texas.

Co-sign. People here are making the wrong assumption that technology won't progress in the next 50 years. Technology is progressing in a break neck pace. In 50 years, we'll be living in a post-scarcity society in which food, water, and shelter will be plentiful. And there will no longer be the need for human labor. Africa's population boon of young people in the next 50 years will help make this the African century.
I also expect many of these population projections to be VERY WRONG. They are assuming that the rates of birth/death will stay the same. People are going to be living much longer in the future and will be producing less children later in life as living standards increase. I'll be shocked if the number of people on earth exceeds 10 billion.

so you could fit upwards of 3 billion people in Africa even with alot of space remaining because countries like America and China have alot of open spaces even though they have large populations.

One reason why people may be unaware of the the true sizes and relative scales of the continents is that most maps distort geography so that they can portray the earth in 2d.you're right but peep this

I had no idea. I wonder what the numbers will be like combined with the rest of the continent. If Nigeria will have a billion alone, then the rest of the countries in Africa plus Nigeria should be able to dominate the world population wise.
