As a UT fan, I'm not worried.
- I think we got the better coach and it will show over time.
- we have a lot of money to spend and the fundraising drive has started already for the next round of facilities.
- First thing the new AD did was hire Disney to look at all facilities and operations because:
- UT is about to build a huge medical school campus on the east side of main campus. We're looking at the entire east side of campus being rebuilt in the next 5 years. That will include new basketball arena, new south endzone stand to complete the stadium bowl at DKR, new football team and practice/training facility and a new swim center.
Everything in Orange is what they want to build in the next 5-15 years. Those who know the campus can see the Erwin Center is gone and they have designated the South End zone as a project to be done. These have already been confirmed as needing to be done in the next 5 years. We might have the GOAT college facilities at that point. Also notice the football facility is absent from the south end zone. They are talking about building something huge and state of the art where the current practice facility is(just off the upper left of the drawing below) or where the rec sports social work school is(smaller buildings in white to right of the stadium on the rendering). As big as UT is, this will be the largest construction and fund raising drive ever. They've gotten $3 billion so far in public and private funding without even touching the schools' permanent fund(second largest in the world after Harvard)
So UT fans, don't worry. This is the real holdup. There's some major planning that will change the school forever in the near future. Hopefully we have a coach that can put us in these new facilities while winning a Natty or two.
and while Austin isn't huge, the metro is about 2 million and growing fast. That puts it on par with places like KC, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Las Vegas. Austin proper is closing in on 1million, which is bigger than all of those cities. Pretty big. Just lacks pro teams, but has pretty much anything else.
