Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford could have been boxing's biggest fight, but the bout collapsed at the last minute. Here's what went wrong.

Crawford, according to sources involved with the fight, wanted transparency regarding finances, including how much money the event generated to ensure his purse percentage (payment) was an accurate reflection of the fight's success.

"He was going to get transparency" throughout, a source told Insider, adding that Crawford made an "unusual" request to also oversee the marketing expenditure for the show.

A boxer usually does not get involved on this side, as their focus is to train and to fight, rather than to sign off on, say, $200,000 worth of expenses that could include things like press tours, free airline tickets for fighter teams, and so on.

According to a source with knowledge of the negotiation, PBC nevertheless agreed and sent Crawford an updated contract after granting his final requests.

However, Crawford never responded.

Instead, he announced an alternative deal with a niche platform called BLK Prime, and said he would be fighting David Avenesyan in December.

This whole thing is a mess as far as transparency. There's the a side truth, the b side truth and then the actual truth. There's no doubt some fault on both sides, I mean Crawford seems to be on his 'no promoter shorts me' shyt post Arum, so he's most likely over scrupulous.

All i can say is let's hope post Avenyesan that Crawford feels he has been tuned up, after that one we get a real show.

If PBC believed that they wouldn't be sending $0 guarantee offers.. Spence vs Crawford would have to do 750k buys for Crawford to make what he's making vs Avenesyan.. Its obviously an amount Haymon and the PBC aren't willing to guarantee since they only wanna give Bud 35%.. Crawford is content with his legacy as it is and what he's already accomplished.. thats what people don't seem to get.. They think he's supposed to be this desperate fighter with nowhere to go who's gonna take whatever they offer.. Its not the case.. If Spence and the PBC really want undisputed they're gonna have to do way better that they have so far.. They dropped the ball BIG TIME.. I know it's easier to just blame Crawford though

Your math is so wrong. That number for them to get 20 million is closer to 420k a little more than what the Mikey fight did. Which also doesn't take into account gate or sponsorships or anything else. People in The business basically said that ppv providers only get about 20-30 percent of proceeds. Which could even be negotiated down further. Crawford was probably going to get between 15 and 25 million dollars for the first Spence fight.

so why couldn't PBC offer any guarantee? Why did they seem to have no urgency to make the fight, even talking down Crawfords value early in the negotiations? Why was PBC talking about people stealing the fight and the fight not being as big as fans think if Crawford stood to make that kind of money?
Why isn't this fight at worst the 2nd highest priority for PBC right now, only second to KingRy vs Tank. They seem content with Spence beating up Thurman then going through his mandatories or going up to 154....

With three world titles tucked safely underneath his arm, Spence Jr. believes that, with or without the WBO title held by divisional rival Terence Crawford, that he and he alone, reigns supreme atop the welterweight landscape.
Crawford, however, begs to differ.
“You not the head honcho,” said Crawford during an interview on The Good Fight with Kate Abdo. “You ain’t beat me.”
Much to the chagrin of boxing fans around the world, both Crawford and Spence have yet to settle their differences in the ring. Nevertheless, just a few short weeks ago, it appeared as though a showdown between them was on the cusp of becoming a reality.
In any event, while an announcement appeared imminent, Crawford, in the 11th hour, decided against moving forward with their negotiations. Seemingly on a whim, Crawford revealed that he’ll make his first appearance of the year against fringe contender David Avanesyan on December 10th, in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.
Since announcing the unwanted news, Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) has been chastised by even his staunchest supporters. Avanesyan, regardless of his six-fight knockout streak, has failed to impress on the big stage. In what could be viewed as his sternest test to date, the 34-year-old was brutally stopped in the sixth round against Egidijus Kavaliauskas, a man Crawford KO’d with relative ease.
Spence, on the other hand, after accepting that a matchup against his longtime rival is no longer viable for this year, is currently sifting through a long list of top contenders. Amongst them, Keith Thurman and Eimantas Stanionis have emerged as frontrunners.
When placed side by side, the resume of Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) strongly stands out. Having fought some of the welterweight division’s most prominent names, the 32-year-old has prided himself in facing the best of the best. Still, according to Crawford, Spence’s overall resume is supremely overrated. While he admits that the unified champion has several big-time victories under his belt, the pound-for-pound star took the time to poke holes in what he believes has been a vastly overrated run.

this the most consistent we ever seen him out in the media. he still doing a bad job of promoting his next fight imo but he probably realize he need to be out there more at this stage of his career if he wants any kind of motion

When you look at both of there resumes at 147.. Everyone both Bud and Spence fought were opponents they were the favorite against and were supposed to beat.. The only real difference is one fought guys whose names are more popular in America. Everything Bud is saying is correct about Spence resume being overrated.. You got idiots like Blue Blood and Fanon talking like everyone on Spence resume is ATG future Hall of Famers.. I got into an argument with Blue Blood a year ago on his live cause that Goofy was trying to say Danny and Robert Duran are the same . Had to unsubscribe from that dumb nikka..
