Another Gold Medal
I understand, but regardless if it was a fighter that had a strong fan base, people would've still watched. For example, the Sergey Kovalev vs Bernard Hopkins main event started after midnight as well:

But it still averaged 1.3 million viewers and peaked at 1.4 million viewers:yeshrug:

Not everyone is the all time great Bernard Hopkins :wow:

I think it's because Crawford doesn't have "the look" of a boxing star. I remember seeing an argument on YouTube from an Eastern European fan saying he didn't believe that Crawford was African American because his skin is "charcoal" black and "his hairline isn't visible" :yeshrug:

hopkins/kovalev was literally the top fight in the division, this was just a bit of a challenge/showcase for crawford

It also strengthened his standing as a rising box-office attraction, drawing a crowd of 11,127 at CenturyLink Center, with his two appearances at the venue on the year pulling in more than 22,000 in paid attendance.
Damn near capacity (14,000) TWICE... that's damn impressive for a 135lb black boxer not known for his power in Omaha, Nebraska. DAMN impressive.

Several factors went into the dip in ratings for Crawford’s latest appearance:

- The main event did not begin until midnight East Coast time, with the broadcast ending shortly after 1AM ET;

- The overall card, which began with the exclusive rebroadcast of Manny Pacquiao’s 12-round shutout over Chris Algieri in their Nov. 22 PPV main event, went head to head with the 2014 Iron Bowl classic between Alabama and Auburn, a game that—with more than 13 million viewers tuning in—ranked as the most watched college football game in the history of ESPN

- Crawford essentially carried the live broadcast, as none of the supporting fighters came in as recognized draws.
There it is, in bold.

Alabama vs Auburn started at 7:45pm est. The game was over before Crawford/Beltran took to the ring though breh:manny:

Regardless, he's an amazing draw in his hometown, and really has the people behind him, so I hope he continues to fight in Omaha rather than force his way to Vegas to fight like other fighters do. I dont think there's ANY American fighter in boxing today (especially black fighters) that sells as much in their hometown as Crawford does. He's HUGE there:wow:

even as a self admitted BOB ARUM hater I I gotta give him credit for taking the risk in having this fight in Omaha...

I think it's great...to see more fighters opting to fight in THIER hometown as opposed to the Vegas locale

it helped Crawford secure his fan base and this was his SECOND TIME fighting there ...

first time was with GAMBOA...and that did well too,,....

first time they had a pro boxing match since Joe Frazier fought there in 1972

this is Good for boxing

BOXING NEEDS MIDDLE AMERICA and MIDDLE AMERICA NEEDS BOXING

too bad HBO dropped the ball once again

:snoop:
