Thats the weakness of most afrobeats .... even Burna said it.
There used to be some balance early on, but once it went global, all that went away. But you if you don't know, most of these artists come from upper class backgrounds, so they don't have the pain to delve in to, to create conscious records

Vibey babble. I wanted to like this album but man is it empty when it comes to the songwriting.

I don’t expect her to write We Are the World or Killing Me Softly but this shyt is just… empty

I don’t need conscious records. I don’t need pain. I just need honesty and expression. Have a thought or a feeling -> express it in words. This Tems album is devoid of even superficial expression. There are no feelings, no opinions, no meaning to anything she says. I know a lot of them are from upper class backgrounds like you said, but how do you manage to be so hollow that you can't even find a way to be superficial or narcissistic.

Tems is the musical equivalent of a dead fish in bed.

You could listen to this album 5 times back to back, and I could say "tell me what Gangsta is about" and you wouldn't have an answer. Because there is no answer. Gangsta is about nothing. Just like 80% of the songs on this album. I hate sex work rap but at least I know that WAP is about pwussy.

Tems just rhymes basic words with each other, repeats the bars, and then moves on to the next two lines that don’t mean shyt and don’t have much to do with the two bars that came before it.

“I’m di wave… I’m di wave I’m di wave…
I’m a vibe… I’m a vibe I’m a vibe…”

For an hour.

But Tems isn’t a vibe, she’s an aesthetic. She should be the album cover for an instrumental album, or the background music playing while you scroll a "Dark-skinned Baddies of Nigeria" Instagram page.

Or, you know, write an actual song or something…

Its solid. It does feel like its missing something I'm not quite sure of yet. But I like most of it.
the records she made prior to this hit harder, thats why I was disappointed. Half of this album sounds like filler...I really thought we were getting a classic:hubie:

Album is dope. Free Fall with Cole came out beautifully a nice collab. Turn Me Up is a banger. Should’ve been placed in the first 5 tracks. Love “Hold On” as the album closer. Nice album for the summer nights imo
