Entering a tournament?

Your best bet is to enter my grueling training program, I've turned Tekken amateurs into masters...

@Mowgli was crying shame when we first bought the game, but through my regimen he has become a dangerous opponent.
lol thanks, but i'm definitely not an amateur. our set was 5-3 then I had to split. if I play with an actual character I'm good with I'm sure the results will be different

about the tournament, basically when I heard "Esports bars" are a thing now (we have 3 that I know of in Toronto) I been meaning to check them all out. so we walk in, grab a drink, I see they playing Tekken so I'm like 'can I play casuals with somebody?' they say most people here are in the tournament so I should sign up so i'm like whatever :manny: I grab some random guys fukked up pad, head over to a station off to the side to warm up - before I even can check to see if the pad even works they like 'TicTac you on stream against this guy'

so now my first time touching the game in days, first tournament in a very long time, and first game is on stream with someone else's worked in pad. I lost of course. next few games I won with some other guys less shytty pad after finally playing some matches off to the side. ended up tied for 7. I'm winning this local eventually, just need my own pad and I'll be straight. breaking throws offline :blessed:

This game is brutal in terms of knowledge necessary to be legit good.

Better know how to counter strings a-z. Better know when to duck during a string, when to low parry during a string, or to just block and punish.
Better know your 10 frame, 11, 12, 13, 15 17 19 20 frame punishers for every move. Better know all that from crouching as well.
Better know which way to side step every move. Better know which moves you cant sidestep
Better know the frame advantage on every move in the game. Dont wanna get counter hit launched.
Better know how to tech every throw in the game.

From there then your reactions and neutral play actually matter. Without any of that you aint shyt.

Now compare that to dealing with Guile. 6 buttons crouching and standing, his jump buttons and a few command normals. 2 special moves. Now look at a single Tekken characters movelist. People can say 'well you only use 20 or so moves.' True to an extent but you know damn well you better know ALL your characters shyt and when to bust it out at any given time. One characters moveset can be around 100 things. TBH getting used to your character isnt that hard. But having the knowledge of all characters is insane.

Hard to really appreciate how damn daunting it is to be great at Tekken until you really get into it.

peep the tekken message boards, watch youtube vids, practice, that's it :manny:

I haven't played Tekken for like a month until last week I started to play T7 again. Forgot to how do the combos with the other fighters but Lucky Chole is the only one I played with the most

Raiders, more of a PC and old school gaming spot. pretty big restaurant, drinks were good, food was ok. big projector and a bunch of pc setups in the back downstairs. don't know if they stream, if they do its games like Overwatch, dota, etc

Meltdown, a small bar more for the fgc. Non-Capcom games streamed weekly on Monday. Capcom games on Wednesday. I'll be there Monday if you come through, like 6:30pm ish

Power Up, seems more like a fancy downtown lounge with consoles at every table. haven't been yet, so I can't say much else.

if there's more, it don't matter. Meltdown seems like the place to be and I plan on being a regular. if you know who Neo Russel is, he runs the tournaments.

Well damn. I need to check out this Meltdown joint, next two weeks aren't good for me but I'll start heading down for September. One of my boys helps run tournaments in Scarborough for MK, SF5 and other fighters but I didn't know TO had a scene.

Always thought it was only Pokémon and Smash besides the regular PC games.

Dope drop. Good luck tomorrow Breh.
