I'll try not to make this post too long. My daughter started playing WoW with our cousin about 2 years ago. 4 months ago, our cousin od'd and passed away. She hasn't played since. Recently, the friends they made in game reached out to her and asked her to come back, and she want's to. She used my old laptop that I bought in 2019. This is the laptop...

HP OMEN 17-cb0002ca
Serial #: CND9431861
Product #: 7KJ87UA

All the specs are factory..

Windows 11 Operating System
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-9750H (2.6 GHz base frequency)
MEMORY: 12 GB DDR4-2666 MHz RAM (1x4 GB, 1x8 GB)

GRAPHICS (Integrated) Intel UHD Graphics 630
GRAPHICS (Discrete) NIVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Graphics (6 GB GDDR6 dedicated)

Well this is our scenario. The laptop has always acted weird, and sluggish.. which is weird because other than the WoW files, there really wasnt much of anything else on it. Well when I start it up, it wont boot. I get a message on the bottom left of the screen that says 'press the ESP key for startup menu'When I go into BiOS, and I go through the soot up options, and I choose to start it, it gives me the following message:

Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard drive.

Hard Disk - (3FO)

So I assume my laptop isnt recognizing my hard drive anymore. I tried to troubleshoot it. I opened it up and made sure that there were no loose cables anywhere. And then I tried to boot through BiOS, but its still not recognizing it, so I cant get it poppin.

I'm assuming I'm gonna need another hard drive to install, right? And while I'm at it.. can someone look up my make and model and tell me the best way to go about upgrading everything that I can? And yea.. I'm no 6 cert, 6 figure dude.. so I need it to be as affordable as possible brehs. I was thinking about another hard drive that works. (dont care if it'll be a second hand one) Possibly a better graphics card? (If I can even change the one thats on it now) and If I'm not mistaken, I think the memory can max out at 24 GB.. so I'd like the best possible options that we can look into there also.

I just wanna make it the best experience for my kid that I can. So any help would be great y'all.

Preciate it.

Not an expert, but I gather most components in a laptop apart from the harddrive, and maybe ram, are soldered on, making upgrades impossible.

Also, I'm not sure it's a good idea to run two asymmetric ram sticks together, might explain the weird performance you mentioned.

If a new harddrive doesn't work, a second hand Lenovo legion or Acer nitro seem to be good bang for buck if you need to replace the whole thing...
