Rigondeaux Wants 124, Rehydration Stip For Lomachenko

Posted by: Random Hits on 7/13/2015 .

CORK, Ireland - Irishman Gary Hyde, the manager of unified super bantamweight (122 lbs.) world champion Guillermo "The Jackal" Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs), has accepted in principal the offer made by Egis Klimas, manager of World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight (126 lbs.) champion Vasyl "Hi-Tech" Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KOs), for a Super Fight.

Rigondeaux is the reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) Super, WBO and The Ring magazine's super bantamweight champion.

Cuban-native Rigondeaux, who now lives in Miami, and Ukrainian-born Lomachenko are both two-time Olympic gold medalists.

"'Rigo' will fight Lomachenko at a catchweight of 124 pounds, which should be no problem for Lomachenko because he weighed 125 pounds for one of his professional fights, Hyde said. "'Rigo' is a small 122-pounder who could make 118 without much trouble, but he would be giving away size and weight advantages to face Lomachenko.

"We would insist on a rehydration clause of 135 pounds for fight night. If Klimas agrees to this, then, we have a fight. Lomachenko is a masterful fighter like 'Rigo' and this match- up will be a classic. We have a pair of two-time Olympic gold medalists and current world champions going at it. I believe 'Rigo' is the more ferocious of the two fighters and I firmly believe 'Rigo' will dominate Lomachenko. Klimas, you know what you must do to make the fight, just pick up the phone and call me. 'Rigo' is ready!"

Sounds fair to me, especially being that Team Loma called Rigo out:mjpls:

Rigo is 5'5 and fights at 122. Loma is 5'7 and fights at 126.

Loma weighed in at 138 against GRJ though after rehydrating while Rigondeaux only weighed in at 128lbs against Marroquin, after rehdyrating (the last time I found any info on his rehydration)

A rehydration clause would definitely be needed:yeshrug:

I like Rigo but he isn't in the position to call shots :yeshrug:

a catch weight is fair but re hydration and all that :camby: I gotta stay up till 3am like im watching old school ecw to see Rigo fight :francis:

Yeah Rigo aint got the clout to call these kinda shots.

You shouldnt call out guys from smaller divisions then:manny:

Rigo's highest rehydration weight on record is 128...he's too small for Lomachenko.

Lomachenko should be fighting Walters anyways

I would love to see the fight but Rigo needs a reality check with that. Loma isn't that big of a Featherweight either. It's not like he's Salido & will be a Welterweight come fight night

so loma would not get his 122 belt af catcweight?

Nope. Anything over 122 cannot be a sanctioned Super Bantamweight/Junior Featherweight title fight...only Loma's belt would be on the line, so he could easily fight Walters as well if he's considering fighting Rigo.

Rigo's highest career rehydration recorded is only 128 lbs (that I've found)...he's too small to let Loma have a 10lb weight advantage (Loma was 138 against GRJ) the same way Team Loma feels that Loma is to small to let Walters to have a 10lb weight advantage over him:

So in the wake of Nicholas Walters losing his WBA featherweight title on the scales last Saturday before facing Miguel Marriaga (who Walters out-pointed at the Theater of Madison Square Garden), is there any chance that the highly anticipated clash between he and WBO featherweight titlist, Vasyl Lomachenko, still takes place in the fall?

"For what?" scoffed Egis Klimas, the manager for Lomachenko.

"I don't see an interest in him because he's not a title-holder anymore, that's it. And right now making his next bout we're not sure about his weight or we have to think about his weight. Second of all, he comes into the fight [rehydrated] at 145, 147(pounds) - we'd be doing the same thing we did with Orlando Salido. So it's absolutely no interest - zero."

If you recall, in Lomachenko's second pro outing he faced Salido in an attempt to capture the WBO 126-pound belt, but not only did the rugged Mexican come in a few pounds over the featherweight limit, then he ballooned up to 147-pounds, giving him a decided advantage over Lomachenko.

History will not repeat itself if Klimas has his way.

He added - "and to do a catch-weight, there also no point to do a catch-weight because again for what reason? We're featherweight fighters. I understand if they weigh-in at 132, 134 or even 135, it's OK. But 147, c'mon."

Like Salido, Walters came in as a virtual welterweight by the time he got into the ring to face Marriaga. Lomachenko and his team have made it crystal clear that they are going belt hunting. If you don't have one, well, you're really not in their plans.

But yet they would have a 10lb weight advantage over Rigo and it wouldn't be for a title (in Loma's case):yeshrug:

He should fight Walters if not willing to do a catchweight/rehydration/non-title fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux:manny:
