Edison Reynoso, manager of Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs), confirms that former champion Joshua Clottey (38-4, 22KOs) is the current frontrunner for his boxer's next fight, which may take place on December 6th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. BoxingScene.com had a reported late Saturday that Clottey was the leading candidate to secure the fight.

Reynoso says there could be a conflict with the date, so nothing is set in stone and it could move to another location and a date in late November. Clottey is coming off a dominating decision victory over former champion Anthony Mundine.

"I think that this week we will practically define everything...the opponent, the venue, the date and the television network. There have been some things going forward. The most viable thing right now is Clottey for December 6th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas," Reynoso said.

"But it seems the venue might be occupied [on that date] we're going to see if the fight is going to another location in Texas or the date will change to the end of November. This is basically what is stopping us [from finalizing things]."

"Right now nothing is definite, but things have been moving along."

He needs to rematch Lara. Either that or go ahead and make it happen with Cotto.

To be fair, neither one of them put on a spectacular performance. It was definately the dud of the year. I'm not convinced Canelo is all that special yet.

Why? Rematches of shytty fights that did not do good business make no sense. Lara blew his chance. He'll go back to FNF now

If he has to go back to FNF, Canelo needs to go with him. Canelo has a strong Mexican following, but take that away from him, he's nothing, not impressive to me at all.

I haven't seen the clottey/Mudine fight, but I like the match-up, I think if Clottey doesn't let his hands go Canelo washes him, but if Clottey on his A game I can see it being a good fight

Outside of a loss its a win-win for Canelo, whether it's getting the K.O. or winning a close/competitive fight its a good build up to the Cotto fight

I'd rather see Alvarez in against another pure boxer, such as Ishe Smith. Guys like Clottey and Kirkland are there in front of you to be hit, perfect for Canelo. We've seen how that goes, Canelo beats on em early, then coasts/pot shots for the 2nd half of the fight.

That Lara fight did not answer any questions on whether or not he's a multidimensional fighter who can deal with a jab + movement. I'm not convinced. The kid is a young, strong phenom... but he's got to do some serious re-strategizing if he wants to hang with top tier boxers.

...but on the other hand, after the snoozer that was Canelo-Lara, I completely understand this move on GBP's part............

I personally want to see a Molina-canelo fight..the struggle within would be exposed for canelo
