teach me how to make trap **** pls

went to a local show tonight where a couple acts were battling on some battle of bands shyt.

most of em were completely trap shyt and groups. it was one nikka who went dolo and was spitting some lyrical shyt. wrong crowd breh . I played him some shyt and he loved it. the other nikkas who won tho couldn't fukk wtih my mostly sample based ecletic style. so I'm coming to the tunnel seeking help. I fukk with trap elements (stuttering hats, snares, fx, etc.) but can't fukking do synths to save my life. I have hella vsts and stuff just have no idea how to start one. I know when I figure it out I'll be able to pump em out tho. thanks in advance sirs.

I try not to hold myself to a genre barrier. I really like rolling everything into one and combining styles. But for that Rick Ross trap sound. Use Horns, pizzicato strings, regular strings, a deep sub bass or 808 tones. And synths that sound like this.

Don't be afraid to be repetitive either, remember hip hop is based on the repetitive loop (thanks alchemist).

Also use C#,D#,E,G#,F#,A. This scale is amazing for epic melodies.

Don't get me wrong either I appreciate trap, shyt is coo. but I just hate how if I want to get my foot in the door with this shyt I'm gonna have to learn a style I have little interest in dabbling in .

the 808 and the snares is the backbone of those beats so that usually is what sets it off. Make your own groove tempo 130-150bpm . As far as synths you got to make your own to go to the music you going for. But for the most part like my dude said pizzicato, horns, strings is essential. You want old school lex luger start the beat with a Hit a few octaves down then build the sound up. Also put that tubular bell in there lol everybody loves that joint!

thats a pretty dope beat man, i dont think it would really fall under trap but i like it, its pretty unique. im not sure u can really do a sample on a trap beat really tho..what ive been trying to do lately is stacatto some strings or a synth then lay some brass real low behind it real simple too. im finding that trap beats have a lot of simple layers that you just gotta mix right

im not sure how to get the 808s real good, but what i did for the beat i posted in here was go to the volume envelope and turn attack, sustain, release all down and turned the hold all the way up..it sounded somewhat right so

i think with time u start to learn some tricks of how to get it to sound right, im just gonna keep practicing and findin sounds i like for the style. a lot of these trap producers are using presets in plugins and maybe tweaking them slightly and adding even more effects in the mix..im real real basic right now as far as mixing goes so that hurts my trap beats a lot

This is not bad at all for a first attempt. Never did a beat over 110bpm. Might experiment just for practice.

thanks man, i guess im in the 'keep practicing' phase right now lol i think itll come with time tho. my BPM for that beat was at 135...normally im around 80-90 BPM

trap music is 75% drum programming...if u get that right the rest can really be SUPER simple to figure out....i mean like 3 notes the whole song simple

oh yea as far as 808s i use a basic kick with alot of attack and layer that of a sinewave i made in Subboombass that way i can have the attack of the original kick drum and control the pitch of the 808. super simple also

This ain't even sound bad breh. You almost there just keep at it.

If you need more inspiration, check out some of DBR's tracks breh. Dude is one of the best trap producers in the tunnel. His shyt be mixed clean and he be having a real complex approach to that trap style. shyt be sounding like something you'd hear on the radio or a DJ Paul album.
