Lets be real here. The bar was set low DECADES ago. When there were more people outraged about ashlee simpson nonsinging ass lipsyncing on SNL 20 years ago than her getting signed from straight up nepotism because SHE COULD NOT SING, that was when i knew shyt was over. Ashlee simpson was so bad at singing she damaged her vocal cords trying to hit notes she KNEW she couldnt reach and NOBODY SAID shyt. It was okay. Very slowly you get used to it and start seeking it out. It's the only way I can explain the chokehold she has on so many women, especially since many of them grew up listening to her and never diversified their music taste.
That's the interesting thing about taste. Music that you thought was trash when you were younger can hit different as an adult and music you thought was great as a kid can come off as juvenile and uninspired when you've tried different music over the years. Taylor swift fans found a comfortable niche and stayed within it--never wanting to be challenged and wanting the predictable slop that was the background music in their child and teen years. It's like Tyler Perry movies. Perry fans know what they're getting when they see that man's face and rush into the theater to get their fix.
Nobody is going to a madea movie and leaving with a sense of existential dread or a new perspective on life. They're having their existing beliefs confirmed and told that their behaviors and choices are valid no matter what anyone else says.
