Thanks dog, in that case, he caught a break. Most concurrent sentences favor the longer one, so in that case he's now effectively serving the 80-year sentence instead of the 55-year one, and won't be parole eligible until he clears 40 years, which puts him home at 57 minimum...
Also did he go to trial or take a plea on the 55-year sentence? If he's now on the new sentence, because he went to trial he eligible for time cuts. Now, it'll be many years before they slice his shyt, he not getting out before he does at least 20. But shyt like this isn't that uncommon, to hear a guy get 80 years, work the appeals for years, then come home after serving 25 or some shyt...
Though I have seen guys get concurrent sentences and end up serving the shorter one. Either way that's a small blessing in the shyt, not getting a consecutive sentence...
