i dont really know if we are worse off, it certainly does seem like cacery is at a highpoint not seen since the 1980s, though.
tavis is not explicitly wrong in many things he says, it's just that at this point i feel both he and cornel have a personal axe to grind and are promoting themselves. i get the feeling that if they had been embraced the way sharpton and MSNBC have been embraced, they would be quiet about this, but i cant prove that so more power to them.
obama is a decent manager of the american franchise. his personal management style is to not do anything so big and so stupid that you cant fix it fairly quickly, and so far i would say he has succeeded at that. he only had one bold policy he pushed through (ACA) and that is an achievement worth being proud about even though it does not go as far as some want. on race issues, to borrow terminology from eric holder, obama is a coward, point blank. most of the time he is mum on cacery or reforming immigration and quite vocal about black people's failings. his program for minority boys is a drop in the damn bucket in terms of scope, and he always feels the need to draw false equivalencies between black and white grievances. he has done nothing to address the economic and criminal justice problems plaguing specifically us. he has slowly improved the economy, but that always goes to white people first if you dont do something specifically to address that. dude is useless if you only vote for racial advocacy. in my opinion he is better than the alternative on every other issue, so it is what it is.
