Should be important to note that Mexico was one of the first countries in Latin America to outlaw slavery, and they allowed the black seminole tribes of Florida to relocate to Mexico after the Seminole Wars ended and Andrew Jackson booted them out of their land. Recognizing the tenacity of the seminole fighters they even recruited them into top positions of their military. On top of that one of the agitating factors of the Mexican American war was the Mexican government promising to protect the freed status of any slaves who escaped into their territory, and american frontier planters egging their government on to protect their "property" and insurance claims. Their treatment of blacks as of late has not been anything inspiring but to say that mexico never stood up for black people is just disingenuous
