Makes me think, we are overdue for a cultural Renaissance. Art and media being used for good instead of c00nery and slave movies. Depicting our historical figures as glorious. Taking figures who don’t have a known photograph and just portraying them looking good in music and paintings. There’s a Haitian brother on Instagram that is a phenomenal painter and he basically paints all the Haitian revolutionaries looking like Godsent people. And he puts a face on those without one
Wish I knew how to paint and I was rich. I’d be either painting it myself or commissioning like crazy
That would be incredible. The time is definitely now for a new renaissance of black art, film, music, politics, fashion and culture. There is more global diversity and dominance in black music than ever before. Our slang and our fashion has become the language of the people in 2023. We are already seeing Nigerian film directors stepping up and producing impressive stuff and I feel a black American film movement is around the corner. These folks making music videos today CAN direct films.
It's just too bad. Cus how long will we have this positive movement uniting us as a people before Tariq Nasheed or some jackass capitalizes off of it, tries to insert himself as the face of it, and turns it into some useless bullshyt pitting us against each other for his own brand and following. I can't see it not getting co-opted and ruined by someone greedy.
