post me some information from a reputable source about it
Google is free, breh. They absolutely existed, just like black slave owners and overseers. They were just a tiny minority. White folk like to sieze on these to push a narrarive.

'Harriet' fact-check: How accurate is the new movie about Harriet Tubman?
How often were slaves caught by black trackers?
In “Harriet,” white and black trackers work together to catch slaves running north. That really happened, Larson affirms, though in "much fewer" numbers than white slave hunters. But for some free blacks, the money wasn’t easy to resist, she said. In those days, “you could buy a farm for $400 and feed your family and live a good enough life. All you’d have to do was go out and capture one or two runaway slaves and you were set. They were very uncommon but they did exist, and it was a problem for the community.”

It's extremely rare. Rare enough that it shouldn't have been in the movie because it's improbable.

I can only think of one legit black slave owner. Even then, his version of slavery differed from white folks. He granted folks freedom and education if I remember correctly. The rest owned their family to prevent them from being sold into bondage.

:hhh::hhh::hhh: she must have saw that garbage ass harriet movie which was fukking FALSE asf....
I never thought I would live to see the day when a slave movie would have a black man as the main villain and a white man as an ally, but then again my younger self couldn't have predicted the rise of the bedwench.

That’s just a cac assuming though. There was at least one of everything I’m sure. But this cac didn’t give a specific account.
There's conflicting info. That woman said they existed in vanishingly low numbers. Another historian says there is no record of them in her book about slave patrols in the Carolinas and Virginia. That doesn't rule out other places. I'd honestly be shocked if they didn't exist. There are always sellouts.

I think our language needs to be precise

The word "exist" is really broad. Almost any individual type of person you can IMAGINE has "existed". At least one

A person who paints themselves purple exists

There was literally a white woman as the head of the NAACP (?) who was passing as Black

So to say at least one of any demographic/job/activity combo has ever existed is very likely true.

I understand those who are mad about this. The image from the movie is a racist trope and certainly not enough of a real thing that we should make sure to point it out and underline the fukc out of it.

But if we just use our words we can easily distinguish between these concepts and stop splitting hairs

Why wouldn’t there be black slave catchers?

1. It's hard to get your freedom.
2. Slave catchers need mobility. With slave passes and obvious signs of blackness, a black slave catcher can easily become enslaved again.
3. It's dirty work. Most free Black people settled down with family, created their own businesses, and lived with a community of each other for protection.

the vast majority of “black slave owners” were people that bought there loved ones and families out of slavery.
According to carter g Woodson and some others

“Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country's leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.”

Number of black slave owners in USA ranged from 3000-6000.
