For the people that really mind their business and stay low key...this is just terrible to hear. Takeoff was never involved in anything except the music. He stayed out of trouble and drama and still had this bullshyt happen to him. That's why nowadays I'm almost strictly to myself. You can get caught up and taken down over some shyt that don't got nothing to do with you just for being in the mix.

Takeoff was just standing there…
:mjcry:

Nothing about that video called for pulling out a gun, and firing that many shots in a crowded area. So many people have guns, and use them in responsible ways. Whoever let off those shots was a complete fukking idiot.

Who creates the demand though?

Go on Apple Music, under Hip Hop - look at what songs Apple is recommending you listen to at the top of the list.

300 Blackout - Kodak Black
Bag Talk - Polo G

Listen to these songs or read the lyrics.

I'm not talking down on these brothers and they art, but they are creating this music in part because it's what the record labels want to sell to our people.

You're using 1998 logic. That record label argument has been dead since the internet took over how music is consumed.

These artist today don't get pushed by labels onto listeners. They get their name locally and online. They're getting millions of views with no major label behind them. The hood and the kids want this type of music and they decide what's popular not the other way around.

Gucci Mane has been putting artists on. The Migos signed to QC which is run by black men. You seen the idiots rolling dice court side at an NBA game? They're signed to Yo Gotti. The major label backing is there for distribution.

Yachty had a throw away recording become a hit because someone leaked it and it went viral. This is a new era.

it absolutely does.... :dahell:

we know our homicide and rate for violence is higher which is why rappers shouldn't be reveling in and going back to these areas and putting themselves amongst that element. gambling with some hood dudes you don't know and fighting with them over money you chose to gamble is a prime example of putting yourself in a shyt position, unfortunately Takeoff was the one to get hit, but even if this weren't a shooting, it already turned violent with a fight (per circulating stories)...as i said, show me the white artists who put themselves in this position? they don't because that's not their mentality nor what their fans expect from them

and to the bolded, they do have the same challenges, minus institutional racism, but yet they not killing each other the same way
there is no such thing as a poor white person

Yes that's so true. It's like black men have to get extra aggressive with other black men all the time. I saw that on full display Sat night at the Benny the butcher show.

When you walked into the venue(at deep ellum) there were some BSF dudes selling merchandise and some white dudes were buying shirts and those BSF dudes were smiling and being very cordial to the white dudes.

I was with my girl but I recognized some real certified street dudes I personally knew there. One of the black street dudes asked the BSF guy if they were selling vinyls, that's all he asked, he wasn't aggressive or nothing with the question. The BSF dude gave him a passive aggressive answer. Street dude took it as disrespect and all night I knew some shyt was gonna pop off because Dude was making calls and that building was heavy outside with them dudes and lot came in and they were all huddled up, it was a long ass show and you could feel the tension in the air.

Finally someone from Benny's camp went and talked to the dude who felt disrespected and went backstage to chop it up with benny but it was just a lesson that the slightest things can cost you your life quickly if it gets out of hand and I'm sure benny was hyper sensitive to it because he had already got shot in Houston but Dallas is different because it can lure you in like LA and then all of sudden you getting ran down on and never see it coming.

Just wish we had more respect for life and each other.

This should be a thread all on its own...

The I in Team
shyt sad AF. Here in the UK, obviously some people have guns, but it's pretty rare. In the US too many people have a gun. I know this is an obvious statement but this incident illustrates the problem

I know US at the point of no return given the amount of guns in circulation, but in UK this ends up in a fist fight, or perhaps a knife gets pulled out in an extreme case or in the most rare case a gun. If someone got a gun on them, it's too easy for something that should escalate into at most some punches getting thrown, to a weapon getting drawn that can with one pull of a trigger blow someone's brain's out. shyt is just alien to me.

We can talk hip hop, poverty, mentality. But when guns are so accessible it's too easy for a trip to the ER for a broken nose instead be a homicide. I know this argument is somewhat irrelevant given the culture of guns in the US, but as an external observer, it's depressing how easily someone getting hot headed ends in death. Of course that can happen anywhere, but the risk level is naturally so much lower when no one packing a fukking gun

The solution to the gun violence in America is more guns. Make it make sense to me.

Yeah that video was barely an argument. Even if a punch was thrown, all them people around could have stopped that shyt from happening.

Whoever shot first was definitely already waiting to shoot at that point.
