shyt sad AF. Here in the UK, obviously some people have guns, but it's pretty rare. In the US too many people have a gun. I know this is an obvious statement but this incident illustrates the problem

I know US at the point of no return given the amount of guns in circulation, but in UK this ends up in a fist fight, or perhaps a knife gets pulled out in an extreme case or in the most rare case a gun. If someone got a gun on them, it's too easy for something that should escalate into at most some punches getting thrown, to a weapon getting drawn that can with one pull of a trigger blow someone's brain's out. shyt is just alien to me.

We can talk hip hop, poverty, mentality. But when guns are so accessible it's too easy for a trip to the ER for a broken nose instead be a homicide. I know this argument is somewhat irrelevant given the culture of guns in the US, but as an external observer, it's depressing how easily someone getting hot headed ends in death. Of course that can happen anywhere, but the risk level is naturally so much lower when no one packing a fukking gun
Especially in Texas. They literally have a law that anyone can have a gun without a license anymore.

There was just a story in the NY times where cops are saying it's leading to more random shootings there.

RIP Takeoff. At some point our stars gotta know they can't live the lives they did before the fame. Dying over a dice game fight when you're millions up is nuts.

Nikkas that announce their exit like you do every week usually don't go anywhere and just want the attention that comes with acting out and being melodramatic

It's like when kids stomp around the house saying they're gonna run away from home

"we need to make sure nobody tears down the industry"...
wow, even the cops went hard to speak highly on behalf of the hip hop community. coming from someone who in entrenched in the crime. that's called nuance for ya :salute:

This has absolutely nothing to do with rap music. It has everything to do with how black men view and treat each other
But wouldn't you say rap has changed how we as black men see eachother. Case in the real nikka vs the square

Quick question. Seeing as this was Texas, if they can prove Quavo's people shot first, do they catch a charge for Takeoffs death? I'm assuming if what I read is true, someone from their camp is catching a charge.
It depends on if Takeoff was an aggressor or just an innocent bystander.

In a regular situation if Quavo instigated the fight and somebody from his camp fired the first shot then the killer would have a really low chance of getting convicted if Takeoff could be portrayed as a threat (as long as the gun was registered and they weren’t a felon). But things change when a celebrity is involved.

Takeoff
PnB Rock
Pop Smoke
XXXtentacion
Young Dolph
King Von
Nipsey

All huge :stopitslime:

Even rappers like Trouble and JayDaYoungan were big in their markets.

These nikkas dying every couple months. It’s a crisis in rap.
Pop Smoke, somewhat XXX and Takeoff, that’s the only ones that would be considered “huge”. Nip for instance got bigger after death. Before that Victory Lap ain’t sell shyt. He wasn’t even a gold artist. Von was pretty buzzin but he wasn’t a household name like that. PNB wasn’t huge either even tho alotta people fukked wit him. Dolph wasn’t huge. He had a nice fanbase tho. Rappers like Cole, Kendrick, Drizzy, etc etc ain’t dying left n right.

But things change when a celebrity is involved.

In a regular situation it wouldn't get this much airplay, no one would care that the guy not involved in shooting dice is who was killed...

It would be a bunch of black men partying on Halloween started shooting at each other, someone(s) died. That's it...

They'd assign someone to investigate but it wouldn't be a press conference about it, and they wouldn't devote extra resources to find the killer. If the answer doesn't come forward immediately or with airtight evidence (as in video footage that clearly shows the shooters), this goes down as unsolved and is forgotten to everyone who isn't related to the deceased...

That's what normal scenarios like this look like...

We actually liked and respected the rappers in our generation. We looked up to them the same way people look up to athletes.

Now that dynamic has been upset because rappers wanna be street for real and street nikkas want to compete with rappers for clout. Both groups knew their lane in the past.

Will Smith has a funny story in his memoir. He was good friends with a notorious gangster in Philly. The Gangster was like 5'6 150 pounds. One day they were gambling heavy and Will was winning. He started to clown the small gangster and the whole place fell silent. The Gangster whispered to him not to ever do that again and Will bowed down. They went back to being good friends.
I think there's some nuance to that, there are definitely cats who are (were?) street but they left that life behind.

They were "street for real" but had enough sense and talent to go another route.

Even back then everyone wasn't studio thugs (not that that is even an inherently bad thing).

And it's a major, major problem...

That doesn't change the outcome here, only a different person is killed...

The access to guns is outta control and near the root of the problem, though...

Nobody is murdering anyone over Monopoly money or Uno...
I’ve seen nikkas get sent to the hospital over Spades. Dominos. Plenty people get killed over poker games. Gambling is a sin in the Bible for a reason. It’s been dangerous since the beginning of time. shyt look at how the MOB had the gambling shyt on lock and look at the violence associated with that. It’s like muthafukkas live a sheltered life and don’t know anything about the history of the world around them.
