After NBA 2K18, Take-Two's CEO Talks About Microtransaction Backlash And Future Monetization - Game Informer

Demanding a progression system that doesn't have a "pay-to-win" shortcut is NOT the same as demanding free content. Not if you paid $60 for the damn game in the first place. Ask yourself if this is the kinda fukkery you wanna support before you buy 2K this year. Don't let this become the industry standard.
You realize 2K isn't pay to win right?

There's a point where money trumps the general time investment. Battlefront wasn't pay to win either. Neither was Mordor, Destiny, etc

The time it takes to make up the span of a 20 dollar purchase is what? 50 dollars? 100? How many in game hours is that? And if that content is already a part of the disc you own, why is it behind another pay wall?

And this isn't even getting into the myteam shyt. You could make an entire league of hall of fame players and set up a playoff between your friends, draft too, in 20 minutes. Now? How many packs you want to open lol

This is a lie. A gang of nikkas went back to 2K17 for park.......
They don't maintain previous editions lol

A few system updates on and they'll get around to patching shyt as soon as people forget to care

:mjcry: Remember we had game day, madden, nfl fever and nfl 2k and blitz

:mjcry: Me and my dad used to run NFL Blitz heavy

Ain’t it crazy how we propped 2k up 10 years ago because of Live, now we begging EA to save us from 2k?
2K11 is the greatest simulation basketball game of all time

NBA Elite legit got shelved

I could only play NBA Live 06 for so long

That's dismissive of the fact that people do so without their product being fully supported only a year after release.

There are games over 5 years old getting regular updates with zero microtransactions. And it's not like yearly releases are a burden for larger studios either. Plenty of companies run off of seasonal roadmaps that line up nearly identically to the 2K/Madden development cycle. They do it across separate studios and somehow manage to make patches, updates, and properly support their products *without* having to see their inbox fill to the brim regarding their feet dragging approach to addressing conflicts with things as rudimentary as a fukking psn update.

So yes, people still play those older games. I never said otherwise. Are older games supported at even the bare minimum standards of the industry? No. And with the money they save on recycling content combined with the ad money as well as the vc cash, there's no excuse for it.

They don't give a shyt about bludgeoning consumers from every angle - and their biggest fans defend it.

I'm not defending anything. The microtransactions in 2K are pretty foul. I just pointed out that the servers are up in 17 and it's not a p2w game ( especially this year when it seems like skill trumps having a 90+ rated player anyway)

The real rape happens in myteam with pack odds

No one rolls out obvious pay to win games anymore. The squeeze has long since moved past that.

It's not pay to win in the sole, eye squinting perspective that money will not guarantee your victory. However, if you want to address stat advantages (not even touching cosmetics or quality of life features or other bullshyt) that shorten the skill gap between the people who are and aren't paying up, what's the next form of monetization?

Time. It wouldn't be so bad if that time wasn't literally dozens of hours of play time but it is. Dozens of hours of play time to get players that fall into their archetype of how the game must be played. You can't even freely determine where your time/value goes lol

And in that time, how much product placement is 2k throwing at you? You gotta understand that companies would straight up pay people to consume that much advertisement. Not only that, but they run a cell phone app and other shyt too. They're taking more from their consumers than any other AAA game on the market and they're doing it with almost no effort because people don't just accept it, they are somehow validated by it.

They can do more than keep their mega blocks servers up. They could legit transfer content fluidly between all of their titles if they wanted to. Instead they can't even be bothered to collect data for their own use in house in order to patch their most current releases.

I mean damn. Consumers can say "this is bullshyt". Even wrestling fans have a better deal and their only game hasn't had competition in ages. Can't blame the licensing.

Or what happened to PS used to have other NBA games called "Shooutout", "In The Zone",

or Xbox Original has NBA "Inside Drive"

Imagine if we still have those new games today. We have many option to ignore 2K or Live.

Microsoft needs to bring this back and put money into it. At least it would give us another option. Although gamers would have to buy an Xbox to play it.
