It's not something that can be avoided, it will happen to us all. However, murder can be avoided by simply not doing it. I would say trying to rationalize murder under any circumstance or trying to seduce someone else into it with hypotheticals makes you a psychopath.

so basically you don't really care who lives or dies you primarily care about your responsibility in the matter. in other words you will forsake the greater good just so you can feel better about yourself and let whoever die.

the irony of it all is flipping that switch doesn't make you a murderer at all. hell flipping the switch doesn't even make you a psychopath because a psychopath would still probably flip the switch they just wouldn't have the emotional reaction to flipping the switch that a normal person would.

your decision not to take any action is a decision that 5 people will die. you chose the life of the one over the five if only to make yourself feel better about not getting involved. once you have knowledge of the situation whatever action you take beyond that point decide who lives and who dies.
