I thought a 7.4 magnitude quake would be way more devastating. Did it not hit the land or are the buildings that strong? Or a combo of both?

We had a 6. Something hit off shore last year this time. My family was with me at the time. We were staying on the 16th floor of a condo.

This is off the ring of fire. Asians have to build vertically so their engineering has to be on point. Kind of like California after that major earthquake near San Francisco.

Buildings have to move and offset the energy coming from the earth. Man is amazing in that aspect of building to withstand a 8.5 earthquake.

Ive been to Nago a few times. It was nice and quiet. Its just a lil drive from Kadena though.

Naha was my spot. Kokusai St was cool but I would kick it on the yakuza side since I spoke Japanese.

That’s crazy. Earthquakes have to be up there in terms of natural disasters. Can strike at any time and the aftershocks can be even more catastrophic, not to mention tsunamis potentially forming. I expect that death toll will be going up in the next 24 hours.
