The n-word is one of the most significant if not only victories black Americans have over their former oppressors and that is the crux of the problem, not the word.

They mad as hell blacks have almost total control of the word. Now most of them can only use it in private. A word they once used almost exclusively to empower themselves and to make blacks feel sub-human and shame. Now more than anything they feel shame when they hear it.

I admittedly stopped using the word and long lost the urge to use it in any capacity but I hope blacks don't stop using it any time soon because if they do whites will again control it and hell if they not putting up a fight to get it back. Do not let them get it back.

So how do you explain the point in time where we took it and didn't act violently to the word being used? They didn't say it just to make us mad, genius, they said it in order to degrade us to a subhuman spectacle. And you sitting there and taking it empowers them, if it may not be the word, it empowers, THEM.

What do you look like sitting there, someone calling you an idiot over and over and you just give them the whole :manny: spiel?

You won't even defend yourself? Does that make you powerful?

No, ****** is not my name or title, it has not and never will be, so you're damn sure not gonna call me by any other name other than the one given to me by my parents. :stopitslime:

That's what your stance should be.

I'm sure if our ancestors responded apathetically to the use of that word white people would still be calling us ******s to our face today.

I wasn't alive at the time and so what i look like responding like i do? I think that's an issue we as a community have. If you are trying to insult me yes i will take issue...but if ****** is the best insult you have or the only means in which you think you can hurt me then i am wasting my time and energy on your ignorance.

Hatred and rashness begets itsself...when things are met with apathy they usually DON'T last long. I'm not a slave, never was a slave, never will be a slave how does it makes sense to react like one to a word that has no power over me?

When you argue with a fool from a distance people can't tell the difference....if that is your stance then you must disagree with the whole non-violent aspect of the civil rights movement.

This is closer to how i feel but even then words are words...no one has ownership of any of them. People will define them as they so choose and if its not offensive to you or has no power over you then it saps any power some one could have by using it.

And i DO agree with the fact that white folks just feel SHAME when its used....its almost comical but they SHOULD it WAS a word of great pain and suffering and degradation. But just like the words "faq" and "gyp" the words have different meanings now....

Why keep giving it such power?

that's bullshyt, ****** is simply a bad habit picked up from slavery, black people ate not winning by using the word

and the way white people oppressed black people is by denying them access to education and the greatest victory was forcing access to education, not so called control over ******

****** is anachronism more than anything else

I feel what TJ is saying and it makes a lot of sense.

He's basically asking/requesting all people, not just blacks, to be consistant on the matter. He said white people should not be using the word, but neither should black people (or any other race). Not because its a bad word but because saying it publically or around other races does nothing but stir up animocity and puts a spotlight onto the word itself.

Since I was a child I have never been cool with white people saying the word or any variation of it, but of course I've been in numerous altercations and fistfights when that line was crossed. But with me, its just one of my lines in the sand. Some black people I've met don't have that problem with others saying it, but the reality is EVERYONE should.

It also comes to question that if and when people hear you saying it, could any one bring any sort of logical reason why a black person should say it and a white person shouldn't. The best answer I've always given when educating my white friends on the matter is that "While I could give you 50 different reasons why you shouldn't say the word, the only one that really matters is that you shouldn't say it because I ask you not to."

I'd rather people say that than be on some other shyt like "oh your black so u have to be more mad than other people" i think thats absurd...if i was gonna punch you in the face it was prolly long before you called me a ******.

If you want to change the meaning of the word "******" you have to change the ******s.

Globally that's our name. We can hate it, march, make Self Destruction sequals every year, and make up a new name every generation but no matter what you are considered a ****** globally.

Why do we change our name so often (******, negro, colored, black, African American, urban)? Because large segments of "******s" who are labeled "African Americans" still behave in stereotypically ******ish fashion. After 20 years, "African American" gets the same filth on it as "******" because the ******s are the same. Call ourselves whatever we want. Call ourselves Emperor G-ds. In 20 years - assuming we still have thriving ghettoes - Emperor G-d will feel derogatory.

It's the same reason that retards and midgets have to change their names regularly too. No matter how you say it: a retard is a retard. Eventually the new word will pick up the same connotations as the old one because the retards are still retarded.

In conclusion: f*** it. Let them say what they want because even if you whip their ass, they are going to go home and say "This f***ing ****** whipped my ass".

As for black people saying it? Say it. The real issue is getting ourselves together economically and politically. Calling ourselves one thing or another isn't going to directly affect that one way or the other. We will only diffuse the word when all "******s" are millionares. Then it will mean something wonderful and people will strive to become like us.
