It boils down to racism, xenophobia and a lesser extent sexism. It's always about the sexism, xenophobia and racism. Trump gives people the green light to be openly racist, xenophobic and sexist. That's why they love him. And that’s why he won the election. Because he panders to the worst elements of society and humanity and appeals to their worst instincts. He makes it socially acceptable to behave and act the way they always wanted to do. These deplorables won’t feel the need to pretend otherwise anymore. They are going to expose themselves for the rest of the decade, just be patient and watch.
America is a failed state. I even question the purpose of democracy and political participation when we have so many simple-minded, superficial, ungrateful, close-minded, short-sighted, petty, mean-spirited, ignorant, uneducated and racist people with short memories, poor critical skills and low levels of empathy towards people who don’t look, act and think like them. Tribalism and selfishness unfortunately triumphed over national solidarity and human decency.
Since 2016, Modern Politics became « reality tv show status meets professional wrestling » right now. The loudest, biggest, funniest demagogue candidate with the most inflammatory rhetoric and the catchiest mottos wins the game. If you aren’t playing this kind of game it’s over, future politicians will be sensationalist populists that cater to the worst impulses and instincts of the lowest common denominator. The politic aren is a Circus right now and the best clown will always win the game.
All Humans are born sinners anyway, expecting people to be above their sinful nature is a foolish wish and impossible dream.
