Conservative writer: God was ‘answering prayers’ of Texas victims by letting them get shot

Hans Fiene, a Lutheran pastor who is also a regular contributor to the right-wing website The Federalist, has written a new column in which he explains that allowing 26 people to die at the hands of a crazed gunman at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, this weekend was actually God’s way of answering their prayers.

Fiene begins his column by attacking liberals who have mocked Republican politicians who only offer “thoughts and prayers” for shooting victims — and who don’t take any direct action that could prevent future shootings.

He then explains to liberals that it was part of God’s plan that over two dozen people would get shot up while in their own house of worship.

“It may seem, on the surface, that God was refusing to give such protection to his Texan children,” he writes. “But we are also praying that God would deliver us from evil eternally. Through these same words, we are asking God to deliver us out of this evil world and into his heavenly glory, where no violence, persecution, cruelty, or hatred will ever afflict us again.”

Fiene then says that, in order to fully defeat evil eternally, God has to let evil get some temporary victories, such as this weekend’s mass shooting.

“So when a madman with a rifle sought to persecute the faithful at First Baptist Church on Sunday morning, he failed,” Fiene says. “Just like those who put Christ to death, and just like those who have brought violence to believers in every generation, this man only succeeded in being the means through which God delivered his children from this evil world into an eternity of righteousness and peace.”

So here's the thing that I think a lot of people are scared to question right now. If this massacre took place in the next town over, what type of reaction would the residents of Sutherland Spring have? Would they be "thoughts and prayers"? Would they believe this was the will of God? Would they have written to their congressional leader and pushed for gun control laws?

This question right now seems tasteless, but the answer to that question is the very core of this gun control debate.

Because arguing against gun control, if any of them engaged in such conversations/voting practices, ensured that they would be the cause of their deaths. Which is scary when you step back and look at it from a 30,000 ft view right? That means that for x number of years on this earth they prevented their own rescues and had no idea.

And I say all that to say, over the next few weeks when we're creating another thread for a massacre that takes 4-58 lives, it would be interesting if we could freeze time now and see what those victims, those families, those friends, thought about someone else's death that did not personally affect their day to day lives.

Did that seem harsh? Probably. Makes sense in my mind though.

I guess the Air Force is the fall guy now?

This country is so backwards
They should be held accountable. The domestic violence and dishonorable discharge are two red flags, both are questions, and in many states will automatically disqualify you from a purchase.

I mentioned this before in another shooting thread that the 4473 and NICS are not valid background checks because they rely on honesty as well as an up to date database for the NICS query. I was given shyt. :francis:

They clearly failed in their responsibility and I think every branch should be audited now.

I didn't read into what the AF dropped the ball on but wouldn't a dishonorable discharge turn up in whatever background check?

If it's the basis for getting approved or denied and is essentially a sworn statement... they have no way to find out?

America the Unique

11/7/2017 by Gus Money

An American gunman killed 27 people in a house of worship over the weekend, barely a month after the deadliest mass shooting in the country's history. These shootings happen regularly in the unstable young nation, the only highly developed country in the world with such a problem.

The shooter was described as a lone wolf by some, and the American president curiously argued that these massacres are a mental health issue, not a gun issue. He stood his ground despite ironically leading the charge to reduce access to healthcare and mental health services for tens of millions of his own citizens. In case you forgot, America is also the only highly developed country without universal healthcare. They rely on private insurance companies, some of which have historically pulled out all of the stops to maximize profits.

Many American conservatives have developed a habit of claiming that the time is not right to "politicize" these tragedies whenever they occur, but opponents have argued that they are attempting to stifle the conversation around gun control before it even starts. This is a lasting strategy despite the rush of many conservatives, Trump included, to call for stricter immigration policies almost immediately whenever a terrorist attack is committed by someone of a Muslim background.

Countries such as Australia have successfully reduced gun violence through a government funded "buy back" program and other strategies, and many European countries have strict gun laws that make it difficult for citizens to obtain firearms for personal use. Unsurprisingly, these countries rarely have mass shootings. While America is larger than these countries and may have difficulty implementing such changes, it is confusing for many non Americans to watch a country refuse to even attempt at reducing the occurrences of such a heartbreaking, yet uniquely American, problem.
:manny: I can't sleep. Excuse any typos.
