GGG won a close fight, but Jacobs did his thing. If he would have sat down on his punches and took charge of shyt, he could have imposed his will more and took advantage of a GGG that wasn't too aggressive.
Fight definitely deserves a rematch, but I feel like GGG's jab and knockdown was the difference in the fight.
Jacobs fought a lil too scary for his physical dimensions. He was on the back foot a lil too much. If he would have come forward some more he would have won
Good looking breh. I had been big upping Jacobs before the fight because I respected him and think he is a very good fighter. He showed up well. A lot of people had been shytting on Danny and now acting like Danny was their boy. That is why I stay away from fight threads until fights are well over. Scoring is predictably terrible (especially if it is a fighter the board hates).
It was a close fight and Danny did better than expected, but that is as far as I saw it. Danny had a speed advantage and size advantage and never used it. Every time they got in close Danny looked to move towards GGG to cut off any distance and force a clinch, even if GGG was the one to initiate it at times. He never got physical and pushed GGG around inside. From the outside GGG dominated with his jab. Jacobs landed some good shots and CompuBox gave him an edge in power shots. It appeared as the more damaging shots came from GGG. He got a legit KD and later in the fight and the end of a round had Danny in trouble and on shaky legs. GGG stayed cautious of Danny's power and was wary to attack and leave himself open, but never seemed hurt by anything Danny threw.
The big takeaway for me was that Danny showed the things you need to do to beat GGG, he just wasn't effective in doing it. He didn't win on the inside (they were equal), he got out jabbed from range, he had the hand speed to land from that same range, but never committed to effective combos. GGG's defense isn't as poor as many claim. His defense was quite effective and I think Jacobs realized that in order to really get at GGG and land something consequential you have to risk opening yourself up and he didn't seem willing to do that.
I think it was a close fight, I watched with two people who weren't GGG fans (or Jacobs fans) and they both thought the fight was really close, thought a draw was possible but if they had to pick a winner were leaning GGG.
I agree with
@patscorpio as well, 114-113 for GGG, felt like the right score and I dont think it is controversial at all. Now Chocolatitio's fight was controversial to me. I had him clearly wining by a couple points...in fact his Cuadras fight felt much closer than this one.
