So if Ive never seen this how many seasons should I watch before it goes into the shytter? First 2 or 4? And will I still enjoy it after Hannibal?

1-4, honestly that's it. Season 4 in particular is GOAT level TV. The showrunner that did 1-4 left after that, and the decline is steep as fukk from 5-8.

Though they both deal with serial killers it's not the same kind of show as "Hannibal".

I feel you but that's not feasible. It's easy to say they should've kept Doakes around, because we seen the show without him....but how could they stretch that out for more than 2 seasons, without making Doakes look incompetent....or without it becoming blatantly obvious that Dexter wasn't gonna get caught, which would neutralize Doakes as a threat anyway?

The show ran too long, period. If you kill off Doakes then run 2 more seasons, I doubt this is a problem. They killed the best on-going antagonist Dexter had, then let Dexter run virtually unopposed for 6 more seasons.

the shows main problem was that no one ever stepped to fill the void left by Doakes death. Killing him wouldn't left such a gaping hole had they just let a character step up to the challenge an oppose Dexter as an actual protagonist not just the single season villain. The logical answer would've been Deb but they waited way too long. They tried with Quinn but he pussed out halfway through for some poorly conceived reason. Laguerta was okay but she'd been useless for so long that by the time she figured it all out she was ineffective and easily disposed of.

The show was kinda doomed from the jump because the premise has a finite shelf life. Kinda like "Breaking Bad". Dexter should've ran at most 5 seasons, with season 4 being the shyt hitting the fan, and season 5 being things falling apart.

Even if Doakes dies in season 2, in season 3 they could've had LaGuerta or Deb be kinda :what: about Doakes being the Bay Harbor Butcher....season 4 the truth comes out....season 5 it ends. Hell, they could've pulled it off even with what they had, if Deb found out in season 5 and it ended in season 6.

Imagine if Skyler didn't find out about Walt until season 6, then it went on for 2 more seasons after that. shyt would be :snoop:

Y'all read the books? Doakes' background played into that shyt somewhat. He had his own demons. :lupe:
I think in the books Dex said that Doakes was fukked up in the head just like him only difference is that Dexter went down the serial killer route while Doakes uses the law to beat the shyt out of people as legally possible... thats why he's always aggressive to everyone just waiting to whoop a nikkas ass

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Dexter still had one of the best moments over Doakes

Also, I don't get people who don't finish a show when they binge watch. Even if it gets horrible, I ride it out til the end. I still haven't finished Dexter, tho.

dexter is the sole reason i no longer stay invested... and weeds

now as soon as something starts getting shytty, i save myself the 4-5 days worth of watching the plane crash

Doakes "coming back from the dead" couldn't have been any shyttier than the shyt they pulled in the end anyway

I watched Dexter since day one of season 1 (I just caught it randomly on premier night) and I still haven't seen the finale :laff: I really don't even give a fukk to know how the hell they ended it
