I hate the term necessary evil, but this is one of those instances. I hate the premise of AA and what it means in the minds of some, but to keep some of these people in power from doing outlandish blatant shyt, it's needed.

By a 7-1 vote on Thursday, the Supreme Court struck down the University of Texas at Austin's affirmative action policy as a violation of the 14th Amendment's guarantee of equal protection.

The decision is a victory for Abigail Fisher, a white woman who claimed that UT-Austin unconstitutionally discriminated against her after the state's flagship university rejected her application in 2008 under its race-conscious admissions program.

Justice Elena Kagan, the former dean of Harvard Law School, recused herself, presumably due to her involvement with the case while she served as President Barack Obama's first solicitor general.

They basically decided not to override the Grutter/Michigan decision while clamping down. Punted the hell out of that shyt.

the main thing is that it doesn't get RID of affirmative action like how some people HOPED. so even though it's a victory for her, it's also a loss.

This is slightly misleading. They are telling the lower court to use strict scrutiny. It could still hold, if the lower court finds that there is NO OTHER way to create a diverse environment at the college.

Regardless, I hope the white c*nt and her ambulance chasing lawyers are burned alive.

What did I say that was contrary to what you just said? They could have just referenced Grutter and ruled in favor of UT but they didn't by a vote of 7-1.

My fault, I just straight up misread your post.

I saw some cac in a comments section somewhere trying to claim this as a major victory and I sorta mixed up my thoughts or something.

It's not a great ruling, strict scrutiny is definitely a warning shot to colleges, but the fact stands that colleges can continue to look at race (And other factors) when determining admissions.

For sure. It essentially as close to a compromise as there can be. They let AA stand but send a message that a tweak might be necessary.

What do you think is going to happen?
