‘Superman’ Screens to Mixed Reactions

nikkas thought Gunn wasn't gonna Gunn

Soon as you seen Krypto, you knew what this was... Hope the fight scenes are on par. Looks like a mid afternoon viewing

With all those other superheros in one flick it did seem like they were doing a bit too much, but I hope it's enjoyable at least.

‘Superman’ Screens to Mixed Reactions

I'm not sure if I trust this "scoop" from this random site.

Anyway, if true, James Gunn has a formula. It's not for everyone, of course, but most of his superhero films have been widely liked. So :manny:

The other DC heroes are mostly in cameo roles. Superman is still the main focus (all of this is according to Gunn).

Also, I have no problem with other DC heroes showing up. It establishes the world without needing movies/shows for each character.

Good point about the formula, while watching Creature Commandos it did remind me of Peacemaker a lot, Suicide Squad and the Guardian movies. Lots of humor bordering on being in poor taste, misunderstood characters tormented how much they are misunderstood and an outsized threat that they don't seem to have a chance against but manage to hold their own/win anyway.

a trap is not a trap if you know it's a trap, it's a faceoff

when I lived with my father when I turned 30. He had three grown stepsons living with him. All adults but younger than me, one day, they had the bright idea of making me cut the grass. But they didn't know what they didn't know. My mom, in an effort to have a house with acreage, (cause she's from New Mexico) took any hilly plot of land she could while we were growing up, we still live in a house on a massive once you consider how the yard is structured. I knew this, my father new this, but they didn't know because they weren't born and had never been there. Dad got a lawn mover better than any lawn mover we ever had and his land all flat. it was so easy that stopped me halfway, and the one that ended up sending me to the hospital cut the rest. ANd for the 12 plus months I was down there, i never heard another word about cutting grass again.

it seems like your typical dc movie. not great but not bad either. most dc movies arent bad despite thier rep. they are a timewaster for a few hours. nobody should be expecting the dark knight or anything.
That's a good thing (to me at least).

While I liked the Nolan Batman trilogy, I prefer superhero films embracing the fantastical and wacky nature of the comics. For the most part, "grounded" and "realistic" superhero films aren't my cup of tea.

I like super heroes to be super, but on some anime super saiyan type shyt, not on a some goofy shyt comedic shyt.
Thats my concern, James Gunn is going to have superman doing meme jokes that will be outdated by the time the shyt hits streaming.
To this day the main scene that bothers me most in black panther is "what are those?" I don't trust comedy from people who have never done a 30 minute standup routine to any sort of acclaim. Its like they use AI to write the jokes. Arnold did better with his one liners back in the 90s than they usually do with the jokes today.

‘Superman’ Screens to Mixed Reactions

Yes, a few days ago, “Superman” had its first non-internal test screening — I only spoke to a few attendees. Suffice it to say, they both felt underwhelmed by Gunn’s film, and I'm being kind here. No need to taint the film further.

Now, reporting on two people who didn’t like “Superman” doesn't mean much in terms of quality. I've heard of people being turned off by the inherent humor, and silliness, that comes with a James Gunn movie — which Superman seems to have in spades.

So far, based on what’s leaked, we've had the usual “scoopers” weighing on the reactions. MyTimeToShineHello says the reactions were “decidedly mixed.” According to “insider” Daniel Richtman, people he spoke to “loved it.”

Yesterday, scooper ViewerAnon shared, "The response I heard directly from Warner Bros was decidedly less glowing than Daniel [Richtman]'s post. Not to say it went terribly, but it’s a divisive film with a particularly silly tone. Some people click with it, some seem to bounce right off."

@Art Barr

You been warning everybody that the IP is going through a table

But i need this movie to do well so that GL John Stewart can one day main event on the big screen
