Wii U Pro Controller is just as good if not BETTER than the GC. This is coming from someone who avidly played the last three iterations, and until this gen, vehemently refused to play Smash (Brawl) on a non GC controller.

I felt that way when I played the first Smash bros back in 1999 for the first time. Give it some time and use the training mode/practice alot. You'll find it really easy after you get used to it.
