I actually used to have this problem with metal gear also. I think it wasn’t until 4 that I really got into it and went back and replayed the older ones. Even though I i owned 2 and 3 i never finished them until 4

Maybe more of an anxiety thing

Yeah at some point I have to try the newer ones out, I heard the story for 3 and 4 are legit.
