People bemoaning this but this is the route it has to go. I saw people talking about Lego Horizon on YouTube before this event even that it would likely be on PC day 1. Indie titles with smaller teams aren't gonna have leaks like that. Back when Sony was still doing E3 pre-events almost all their stuff was leaking before the event to the point the presenters would joke about it on stage. Microsoft is still doing their events and still having leaks. Nintendo is still doing Nintendo directs.

To the posters here who likely didn't go to E3 it not happening this year or ever again doesn't amount to much. Nintendo and Sony can rent out a theater and host live events just like they used to do. They choose not to because it really doesn't make sense anymore. E3 ain't coming back because we don't need it.

It's not about games leaking, or them being indie games specifically. It's that these indie games just weren't all that impressive, and had packages that would've gone over better in a different setting. That RTS game with the crazy animated intro was a perfect example.

E3 was a celebration of games.

A meeting place for gaming professionals

A breeding ground for those interested in games.

SGF is a way for Geoff Keely to make some $$

It’s not surprising most publishers with a decent following of their own want nothing to do with this shyt :manny:

For me, E3 was always an obvious marketing event, but the way it was before, it was at least a little bit less nakedly obvious. Keighley's marketing deals are obvious. His biases toward certain creators are obvious. The fact that opening with talk about layoffs and featuring indie games at this length both covered for marketing deals being made elsewhere and for The Game Awards only tangentially being an award show in December is obvious.

But when you have a singular personality steering the ship, it is what it is.

It was a marketing event for us.

It was a very serious professional convention for people on the industry.

SGF took the marketing side of things, but without the professional convention side of things, most publishers just don’t bother messing with it

I find the discussion about Keighly scheming and trying to get rich off these events funny because the entire reason E3 fell apart is because the. ESA were overcharging all these publishers to set up booths and for showin their trailers. Sony (Shawn layden) specifically said since this in 2019, that the reason they pulled out is because of how expensive it was getting.

The fact that sony willingly participates in SGF means that what Geoff is charging is fair

Take-Two was present. Ubisoft was present. Sony was present. Capcom was present. EA was present. SEGA was present. Bandai Namco was present. Warner Bros was present. That’s a hell of a lot of the major publishers showing content at this. Nintendo and Microsoft skipped it and both are having their own events in the coming days.

Who are all these publishers that lead you to say most don’t bother?

They used to bring them to E3.

I thought that’s what we were talking about :dahell:
SGF isn’t E3. The scale is nowhere near the same. E3 rented out the LA Convention Center and was like damn near a week long event. You’re comparing that to a few live streams with one in a rented theater like they should be equal?

When people make bullshyt points like that they should be shot down. E3 didn't host a centralized press event before the trade show so you're comparing a live stream to the industry wide trade show and criticizing it because it's not the same.

What was the E3 centralized live stream where developers showed up with these best games you now claim they're holding back from SGF? It doesn't exist.
