People bemoaning this but this is the route it has to go. I saw people talking about Lego Horizon on YouTube before this event even that it would likely be on PC day 1. Indie titles with smaller teams aren't gonna have leaks like that. Back when Sony was still doing E3 pre-events almost all their stuff was leaking before the event to the point the presenters would joke about it on stage. Microsoft is still doing their events and still having leaks. Nintendo is still doing Nintendo directs.
To the posters here who likely didn't go to E3 it not happening this year or ever again doesn't amount to much. Nintendo and Sony can rent out a theater and host live events just like they used to do. They choose not to because it really doesn't make sense anymore. E3 ain't coming back because we don't need it.
It's not about games leaking, or them being indie games specifically. It's that these indie games just weren't all that impressive, and had packages that would've gone over better in a different setting. That RTS game with the crazy animated intro was a perfect example.
E3 was a celebration of games.
A meeting place for gaming professionals
A breeding ground for those interested in games.
SGF is a way for Geoff Keely to make some $$
It’s not surprising most publishers with a decent following of their own want nothing to do with this shyt
For me, E3 was always an obvious marketing event, but the way it was before, it was at least a little bit less nakedly obvious. Keighley's marketing deals are obvious. His biases toward certain creators are obvious. The fact that opening with talk about layoffs and featuring indie games at this length both covered for marketing deals being made elsewhere and for The Game Awards only tangentially being an award show in December is obvious.
But when you have a singular personality steering the ship, it is what it is.
