That inflammatory statement aside, Suicide Squad managed to become an Oscar-winning hit franchise despite all the hate it got, and a sequel (tentatively titled Suicide Squad 2) is already on the fast-track, along with a Gotham City Sirens spinoff starring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

There's been a lot of confusion/speculation about what DC Films has planned for the 2018 - 2020 years (after Aquaman, the slate is a bit in flux), and where Suicide Squad 2 fits into the plans.

However, thanks to one of the stars of the film, we may now have an official indication of when Suicide Squad 2 will be going in front of cameras soon.

Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) was doing an interview with THR for his role in season 5 of House of Cards, when he said the following: "As far as I know they're writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I'll definitely come back for it."

Suicide Squad director David Ayer is going to be taking on the Gotham City Sirens spinoff, which means that Suicide Squad 2 may need a different person in the director's chair. To that point, Kinnaman offered the following:

"Ultimately, I'd love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn't want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that's able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well."

That's perhaps a nice way of saying that Kinnaman hopes the sequel will have a better story than the original, which fans are still tearing to shreds for its redundancies (like multiple character intros) and silliness (Enchantress).

We'll keep you updated on the status of Suicide Squad 2.

i didnt even catch this movie until like last week since its been on hbo and i was pretty hyped for this film to come out. pulled a track1 and turned it off within like 15 minutes and walked out the room. fukking TERRIBLE movie. on so many levels. just god awful. have little to no faith in the next one other than the potential of the actors making it halfway decent (margot/will in particular).

Feels like the comic book tent pole movie era is getting ready to have its bubble popped.

CBM are going to have like 7 out of the top 10 this year in box office take :mjlol:

I didn't ask for Suicide Squad 2. Gotham City Sirens is interesting but SS2 is not something I am asking for

Could be possible, i don't doubt it, but the current rate of movies is unsustainable and will eventually reach the point of oversaturation.

They just have to be creative. Doctor Strange was different, Deadpool was different, Logan was different, Wonder Woman was different. As long as they are bringing different shyt to the table it will work. Once all the movies look the same, they are in trouble. That's why X-Men: Apocalypse didn't do all that well, it was too much like everything else.
