The suicide rate among young African-American boys has almost doubled since 1993, according to a new study. The rate among white children dropped during the same period.

The research, published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics on Tuesday, followed the suicide rates of children aged five to 11, between 1993 and 2012.

While the overall suicide rate did not change over the years, the rate among black boys rose from 1.78 to 3.47 per million. In contrast, suicides among white boys dropped from 1.96 to 1.31 per million.

This could have been prevented if these kids actually had close knit families but we know how it is. As long as certain people have their sexual needs catered to, the hell with their kids/family.

I wouldn't say it's that simple

It could certainly play a role but is just one variable in the overall daily assault on the minds of black people within the system of white supremacy

Black youth aren't given the resources to develop a strong sense of self worth and even when taught history are lead to believe it begins and ends with slavery. That along with growing levels of poverty, lack of opportunity, and the media portrayal of black people as a whole affecting children who don't have any positive references on what it means to be a black man (or woman) in society. Is it really a surprise our children are suffering from depression?

Kids are harsh... but when you have to deal with all that bullshyt and don't have a strong household to come back home to and keep you up this is what's gonna happen.

indirect suicide is a big issue in the black community also. a lot of dudes feel they have nothing to live for and have no problems putting themselves in dangerous situations.there's a lot of pain behind it but it's not something people really encourage talking about just supposed to deal with it
