German footballers 'black up' in protest at racist attack - BBC News

A German football club has responded to what it says was a racist attack on two of its players by digitally altering its team photo to make the players appear black.

Deinster SV, a lower-league club from the Lower Saxony region, posted the imageon its Facebook page alongside a message detailing what happened to the men, both Sudanese refugees. "Violence against refugees is pathetic," the post reads. "Emad and Amar, you are one of us just like everyone else and we're happy you are with us."

Their coach, Soenke Kreibich, says they were subjected to verbal and physical abuse during an Easter fete in the town, with Emad later being pushed to the ground and beaten. He says the club decided to make the image as a show of solidarity with the two players.

"We wanted to make a stand, amongst ourselves but also to the public," he tells the Jetzt website. "It should make it clear that Emad and Amar are an inherent part of our team, and not a minority on whom you can use violence to let off your personal frustration."

While plenty of social media users have applauded the club's move, it has made many others uncomfortable. "Protest against racism. Hm. Not really sure about that," writes one person on Twitter. "Somehow worrying, as I see it... Isn't this also a form of racism?" asks one Facebook user.

But there's lots of praise among the hundreds of other comments on the club's Facebook post - which has received more than 10,000 likes.

"People who lack self-confidence always look for apparently weaker people to make themselves feel better. That's how many a person becomes a miserable racist," writes one man, "Thank you for this courageous and creative move!"

Another user is more succinct, declaring: "You guys are fantastic!!! Simply fantastic!!!"

looks like the French team photo

To maintain control in the white mind regarding chattel slavery. American white slave owners devised overt racist propaganda to ensure poor whites kept their eyes down on blacks

Europe was no where near that level

Many Euro countries never even had slaves to begin with.
maybe some eastern euro countries...

western europe invented the racial concept of slavery and then took it to the Americas
the only reason western europe didn't have slaves at home is because they had them in the Americas instead
they still had house slaves and all that

for a long time the UK believed that it was the moral compass of the world and it's main goal was to spread civilization to "savages" aka brown people

racism in west europe runs deep

Whats considered racist in the U.S. may not necessarily be considered racist elsewhere. The "black face" thing is mostly a USA thing from what i understand.

Along with:
  • the "water mellon" thing.
  • the fried chicken thing.
  • the cant swim thing

Forexample if you frew up in the islands you are familiar with this drink

Nothing racist about it. But do that here in the U.S. and it would be a problem

However there are things considered racist in other places that arent in the U.S. too.

For example, ever heard of "fly fell in the milk" concept? Probably doesnt sound racist to you. But ask any Haitian, Martiniquan or Guadeloupean and they'd explain its HISTORY and how racist it is
This. The "blackface" is not seen the same way in Europe than it is in the US. I actually learned it was offensive through reading the Coli. Same with the watermelon thing which is totally unknown in Europe (we have the "equivalent" in France with Banania chocolate and the "petit nègre" way of speaking which I guess are unknown to Americans). It's a shame but sometimes the Coli forgets about cultural relativism.

Also could you expand on the fly thing, it doesn't ring a bell to me (or maybe it's a translation thing) :dwillhuh:

Love
euro cacs know full well this shyt is offensive. They just dont care. Just look at the blackface Charlie bullshyt those demons do despite the outcry from the minorities.

cacs are very demonic friends...
Maybe but How do you know this for sure, tho?

Consider this: I'm black from anther country and am in my lat 30s. I've lived in the U.S. for 21 years now and didnt know about it being offensive until the whole Kanye and Kim thing a few years ago when these white clowns did it. I didnt even know the term "black-face" until this year.

Just saying. While the media machine that is the U.S.A. is powerful it still has it limits of influence.

Europe's racial history is vastly different from Americas:manny:

Its the team showing solidarity.

Europe is not America for all the dumb nikkas there
Exactly...it's Europe, let them rock. They didn't have Hollywood making blackface films or pushin birth of a nation...even though they may know about it, it isn't the same issue as here. I'm not really rockin wit this...but if the intentions are good...hey it's their solidarity:yeshrug:
