Ive been holding off learning boxing for the past couple years due to procrastinating now that I'm more serious about learning it, all the boxing or combat gyms are closed indefinitely for obvious reasons. Smh I had everything planned out for my possible training regiment this past winter for the summer but, I guess fate had other plans as well this is so trash.
I'm right there with you my g, I was gettin it in on the heavy bags at anytime fitness for months until I found a actual boxing gym but COVID-19 came soons as I start trying to make the switch to a boxing gym. I've just been using this time to get down to a decent weight for boxing training so I dont injure myself.
Alot of what I know so far came from trial and error and figuring out my distance and and what style works for my body type. (i'm 5'11 and stocky like a pitbull)
Apparently I 've been doing something right because I use to turn heads and get questioned for tips when I was working the bags or nikkas with actual training would acknowledge like im one of their peers even though I havent had serious boxing training yet.
For me I love the science behind it and its my preferred method of cardio and HIIT training, I just had an epiphany 1 day of "why am i still lifting all this heavy ass weight, trying to get bigger". Dont get me wrong I'm naturally yoked and would like to maintain that, but getting progressively bigger and all the issues that comes with it aint really appealing to me anymore. I just want to be highly proficient with my hands, agile and with tons of stamina...oh and look good in smaller clothes.
I've had to get creative since this covid bullshyt though. Mostly walking 3-6 miles a day and skipping rope. Shadow box at home, but I miss the resistance of the heavy bag, it puts shyt into perspective like "am I driving or snapping with my punches" "is punching like this going to put too much stress on my rotator cuff" etc etc. that immediate feedback from the heavy bag keeps me on point.
