He got to camp late and left early last summer due to his summer camp in Illinois and because of a league sponsored trip to China.
Summer league would have helped polish his offense tremendously and definitely helped his confidence (which appears to be 'shot' at the moment).
The problem is, I think he may have suffered from a little of the same thing my boy Lamar Woodley did. They start to worry about their brand (hip hop show appearances, music videos, etc.) while their game started to suffer. Granted, Lamar was at the peak of his game and he already got his big contract, but Shump still has a lot to prove so it doesn't make as much sense.
