2 a week?

shyt I have 2 every month. As much as I appreciate my friends it makes the hangouts more memorable when they are more spaced out.

We do talk damn near every other day in the group chat tho.

Having friends for going out to drink/do drugs was probably the worst part of my life

2 nights a week sounds about right. I don't think they need to be full on night sessions. Just a beer and game of pool, game of badminton or squash etc.

The way we're living now is functional but it isn't conducive. The next time you go out with just the lads, think about how much lighter you feel. There's less watching what you say and having to play the role of husband/boyfriend/dad. You can just unwind.

This is why I think a lot of men here project. A common opinion here is that women don't have hobbies and have to latch on to the interests of their partner. It's wild to see people balking at the idea that men would benefit from 2 catch ups a week when that is the consensus.

Meanwhile, studies show how women benefit from a supportive bubble whilst men are increasingly suffering from loneliness.

It makes complete sense to me even though I'm not doing it. There are 168 hours in a week, hanging out twice with guys in that span doesn't seem excessive at all.

Think back to our hunter-gatherer days, I'd bet damn near every day had a "guys night out" equivilent where you were just chilling with other men. Modern society is not natural.

Twice a week is a lot if you have a family. Kids, wife, work and chores take a lot of time.

This is true, but I think it's good evidence that we're all overworked.

Let's say you got 8 hours of sleep a night (56 hours), kept work down to 40 hours, spent 2 hours of quality time with the wife EVERY day and spent 2 hours of quality time with the kids EVERY day.....you would still have 44 hours of free time to work with during the week. Let's say 4 hours at church on Sunday and 4 hours of church stuff the rest of the week. Take out an hour every day for washing/grooming, an hour a day for chores, an hour a day for down time to yourself.....you still have 15 hours of time leftover to spend with the guys. 3-4 hours each of two nights should totally be doable.

And that's full well knowing that most guys don't spend FOUR HOURS of quality time with their family every day.

The truth is, most of us are working too much and then wasting too much time on dumb shyt too.

Whats the underlying reason? Stress? Socialization?

Honestly just typing those two out I can believe it.

Bonds can be formed through a range of activities from team sports to male banter – or simply having a pint with your pals on a Friday night,” Dunbar states. “However, the key to maintaining strong friendships is to meet up twice a week and do stuff with the four people closest to you.”

According to the study, men who maintain social groups are less likely to suffer from depression caused by worries about money and job insecurity. They’re even able to recover quicker from illnesses than those with less social contact.

Benefits of strong male friendships include a stronger immune system, the release of endorphins, an overall decrease in anxiety levels, and (apparently) even higher levels of generosity.

The same study shows most men get far less male bonding time than what they require, with 40% only able to make a “guys’ night” a weekly affair.

The researchers suggest that despite spending 20% of their day interacting through other means, men need to meet face to face to keep their friendships strong, and throwing back a few cold beers is the perfect way to achieve this.

So, it would appear that men who typically may have trouble getting the “okay” from their wife or girlfriend to head to the bar with their friends seem to have a legitimate case for doing just that.

:ehh:
