If your idea of being wealthy is the things that you can buy then you will go broke eventually. Being wealthy is more of a freedom of time thing.

Anyone claiming they could just retire as a millionaire right now has not run the #'s unless you talking a million in cash and plan to move outside the US. Look up the costs of healthcare in the US when it's not subsidized by your employer, current inflation, real estate costs, stock market volatility, etc. I expect to need 3-3.5 million by my early 50's if I want to retire early. I'd need ~5M to retire now.

just the same, people often think of retirement from their current situation of all the expenses they have. you shouldn't have the same expenses at retirement. if you still owe on a house and car why are you retiring :jbhmm: plus at the age of retirement, you get medicare so no the cost of healthcare shouldn't be what you are thinking. people retire everyday and are not millionaires lol. both my parents are retired and they never made more money than i do now and i'm not rich :hubie:

I wouldn't say its overrated its most peoples goal to ascertain financial freedom thats all.

Exactly, you want to get yourself in a position where you don’t have to ask questions or do any math when the bill drop. In confidence of course. I live in the California Bay Area - to get there it was around 75k 2 to 3 years ago. More like 90k now. Once you’re comfortable you get diminished returns after that, unless you’re a status chaser.

my father is a millionaire on paper and he has a nice house and get to play golf all day, but he isn't rich. He can buy all his necessities but he isn't balling and he can't take care of his family. You probably need 10- 20 million to really be rich nowadays.

:laff: These smart-dumb talking points man

With the kind of roasting OP gets everyday, I don't understand how he could still make threads like this. GET A CLUE, nikka:mjtf:

Breh you'd be surprised what some people get off to. Wouldn’t shock me 1 bit if OP gets some sick sense of satisfaction from reading the replies to his made up online life :hhh:

I plan so I don't have to work until SS age. Working until you are 62/65 will obviously make retirement easier. Speaking of SS, we don't even know if it will be around (or in what condition) which is how most seniors live in retirement today. Even if you don't have a mortgage, you still have upkeep, repairs, renovations & taxes on a home/car. How much is it going to cost to replace a roof, buy appliances, buy a car in 25-30 years?

I mean he doesn't have money to take all his family out the hood and make sure his kids are living good.

So basically you are saying your dad can't buy all his family member and his grown kids houses, cars, and give them money so they don't have to work anymore if they don't want to. Saying your father couldn't take care of his family because he can't provide grown people the life they want is wrong.

Did you father provide his children a good life when they were young? If so your father did take care of his children. It seem to me you are disappointed in you dad because he don't have generation wealth.
