I like 6. I feel like they actually did things according to plan aside from the leaks and rebuilding the game from scratch. It also feels like they tried to pull something from every previous installment, w/ me personally loving how they incorporated the “drip/swagger/aura” from 3rd strike but not trying to recreate that. From mechanics to presentation to everything they jam packed into the game shows they’re not only beginner friendly but want to make it more accessible for everyone.

I say this as a longtime but casual fan tho. Do w/ that what you will

4 was iconic because it basically resurrected fighting games. The 1st major fighter with serviceable online play from consoles, and it showed the industry that people still love fighting games even if arcades had been dead for like 8 years by 2009 everywhere but Japan.

It was fun to grind out because of the execution requirements, but tbh I only enjoyed SF4 arcade edition and vanilla.

5 was just trash to me, and I played from location test until like 6 months before 6 dropped. It basically took everything Killer instinct did and ran with it.

I think 5 really ushered in the era of Esport for fighters sadly...

6 is just a well made product and fighting game from top to bottom.

The thing a lot of old heads or older heads and can't keep up anymore nor have the desire.

So SF6 gets a lot of heat from that crowd that was young when 5 dropped and now they having to deal with less the same thing the old heads coming off 4 had to deal with then.

6 is really good though

4 to me plays better than 5 and 6, the meta is a lot more diverse and interesting.

6 really pigeonholed itself with some of the design decisions, like forced throw loops/strict throw techs, the drive system, etc. But theres time left to see if they'll pivot

5 on the other hand, ew. I hated that game by the end
