Street Disciple Aged Perfectly for this Timeline

The type of album that an artist would love but labels would hate. I love the album cover because it tells you exactly what your going to hear similar to the Illmatic album.

Almost all of Nas stuff ages well because he wasn’t trend-hopping, like for example (I’m sorry) a Jay-z during his heavy Swizz-sound, Neptunes-sound, Timbaland-sound, whatever is hot at that time-sound, phases.

Something not sounding like it’s from when it was created and something being quality are two different things tho, lol. Illmatic sounds kinda dated, tbh…but it’s the greatest rap album in rap history, in my personal opinion

SD has tremendous highs, some fire fire records…but there’s a healthy amount of triddash all over that jawn. It doesn’t sound dated at all tho..

Overall, its inconsistent, there's the over the top sex rhymes, some of the production is questionable. Songs like "Disciple" serve better as a mixtape track than an actual album cut.

ME and you is a good song too, in an unconventional way, i wish Nas had more songs like that,

Never understood the hate it got.

I damn near thought it was a masterpiece when it dropped, but I haven’t really listened in 20 years.

One of the few times I let the opinion of the masses make me question my own judgment.

It actually got praised by the critics when it dropped. That’s the funny thing.

They both aged well but Black Album is just flat out better.

I do think it did send him backwards as far as relevancy that he never got back at the same level mainstream, and thats fine that was Nas. but in 05 people wanted a Nas album with a few bangers and hits and this wasn't that following up Gods son that had 2 hits

I'm a borderline Nas stan but while he was floatin I just felt like the beat selection wasand this was the beginning of the "Nas picks terrible beats" that lasted for damn near two decades.

Solid 4 mic album. It was probably his worst production, but he killed it lyrically.

It was also a critically acclaimed album, its still at 81 on the metacritic.

production was all over the place. Cinematic on one track, then muddy blues on another...then all Jazzy on another..boom bap on another. Most of the production didn't age well in my opinion. And I bought that album. Title track is a banger. "War" is a classic. But alot of the songs I thought were dope back then just don't get any play from me nowadays. There was also some tracks on there that I thought were pretty ass back then to be fair. One thing I appreciate about Nas is his creativity even if his experimenting results in some missteps here and there. There may be more of that on this album than any of his others.
