'celebrity' has always been gatekept.
being able to attain a level of fame as a black youth simply by having personality and being interesting is a double-win, because not only does it elevate them, but in order to be a marketable product for streaming there are a bunch of the normal trappings (pun intended) required for black celebrity in music that just won't work. They can't be excessively vulgar, market sex, violence or drugs as their primary focus, there's a measure of profanity-checking that occurs for advertisers.
As backwards as it seems, it's lowkey a much better option for young black kids to aspire toward and look up to than say, your average rapper or ball player a Ja Morant
I am not a parent and never intend to be, but looking at it from that lens, definitely preferable to have kids looking up to regular dudes with personality and artistic goals over deciding the only way to get seen and have the lifestyle they wish for is to start selling powder to their own, or killing their own
