The FX channel been playing the movie a lot lately and I still watch it when I see it's on tv.

It's time we end some online myths about this movie

Let's start with the biggest reason the Coli hates on the movie. Y'all say it makes Eazy E look bad. I was an Eazy E stan growing up and I don't agree with this.

The movie made Eazy look like the most gangsta member of Nwa which he was. The opening scene in the dope house made him look gangsta, Dre begging him to use his money to start a label made him look gangsta, Eazy telling Suge and his goons to their face that he wasn't scared of them made him look gangsta and him thinking bout killing Suge.

Movie shows how Eazy was a leader and a smart dude. Like the scene they was about to perform at Skateland. Showed Eazy giving the group a pep talk and showed that it was his idea they should all dress in black to look like an Allstar group. The scene when they got the letter from the FBI it showed Eazy was smart enough to think of taking the letter to the press for free publicity. The scene protesters was stomping and breaking Nwa cds Eazy didn't trip because they bought them cds anyway.

The Coli don't like how the movie made it look like Eazy was having money troubles after Nwa broke up. Maybe he was. They say he was worth 50 million when he died but being worth that much doesnt mean you actually have that much money in your bank account. I remember reading a Eazy E interview back in like 94 or 95 and the reporter brought up Eazy showed him a big trash bag full of weed... a Trash Bag full
:what:

That's way more than personal use. Eazy told the reporter something like he was slanging weed so he could stay connected to the streets. I'm sure one of y'all can find this article online. Would be cool to read it again. Reason I bring this up is it showed Eazy in the movie SOC weighing weed and saying he was using the weed to pay off his artist. In retrospect that makes sense why a dude as smart as Eazy running a multi million dollar record company would risk his freedom over pounds of weed.

Other reason why I believe Eazy was having money trouble is he fired Jerry Heller. Everybody close to Eazy says he genuinely loved Jerry like a father... so for Eazy to fire Jerry that means He must've found out Jerry was robbing him something serious.

Another thing y'all don't like about the movie is Suge and his goons putting hands on Eazy. Y'all say it ain't true because Eazy didn't bring that up in the lawsuit... but Eazy's widow Tracy Wright said they roughed him up in this documentary

she was living with Eazy at the time so if he came home bruised up she would've seen it.

Some of y'all say the movie made Dr Dre look like he was some tough guy . Dre was never a thug but he was a lot scrappier than people remember. There's news articles and interviews that back this up. Like the time Dre was put on house arrest for breaking a music producers jaw. U can see his ankle monitor in this pic

In another incident Dre beat a dude up and dude shot Dre in the leg. A lot people don't know Dre been shot before.
Then there was the time Dre beat some people up at a comedy show. Eddie Griffin was there and told the story before. It caused a big brawl. 2 PAC was there scrapping too...Dave Chappelle was there and talked about this before...
We all know Dre put hands on a few women... Dre left that out of SOC so he wouldn't look bad.
A lot of people say Dre wouldn't knock out any of Suge's goons like he did in the movie but I disagree... Dre wasn't no punk if anybody stepped to him he wouldn't mind fighting.
Matter of fact at the 2004 Vibe awards when Suge had one of his goons punch Dre in the face when he was getting an award what many people don't know is Dr Dre whooped dude after that happened security had to pull Dre off him and then G Unit stepped in and stomped dude out before Young Buck stabbed him.
In this article from back when it happened a dude that was there said Dre "attacked that n!gga"

https://books.google.com/books?id=7...lkKHS1GDF8Q6AEwBnoECAAQAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false

And everybody says the 2nd half of SOC is not as good as the first half. I agree with this but that doesn't mean the 2nd half isn't good... it's just that the first half of the movie was so classic that it makes the 2nd half seem like it's not that good...
the 2nd half of the movie is actually dope tho.

Here's some classic scenes in the 2nd half.

The Detroit concert riot after singing F The Police is a classic scene

Cube destroying Priorty Records with a baseball bat is a classic

Cube recording nikka U Love To Hate with Farrakhan on the tv giving a speech behind bulletproof glass is classic! Cubes son murked that song ! He sounded just like him... the way they cut to Dre in the low rider bobbing his head to the song after Cube was recording it was dope

The scene with Nwa and Jerry Hellers reaction to No Vaseline was classic

Suge pistol whipping dude in the parking lot is classic

The La Riot scene was classic

This is just classic scenes from the 2nd half of the movie I'm naming... in the first half of the movie just about every scene is classic.

So yeah Straight Outta Compton is a classic movie

Naah.

Just Cube's and Dre's perspectives with Hollywood backing.

There are integral people missing in the movie..
The movie is almost 3 hours long. They had to leave some things out

The things they chose to put in the movie is what made it so entertaining

Nobody don't wanna hear about Arabian Prince and JJ Fads story

It's a classic in the sense it's a great watch as a piece of entertainment.

But you can't call it a true portrayal without more emphasis on the business acumen, post NWA of the late Eazy E :yeshrug:

I don't like the way they did Ren. Made him look like an idiot, especially when he wrote a fair amount of material prior to Cube leaving. He might as well have been an extra behind the scenes the way they portrayed him.
In the movie after Cube left Jerry Heller said "Ren is just as good of a writer than Cube"

And in the scene Ren was in the booth recording Real N!ggaz and Eazy was hyped and said "yeah Ren that's what I'm talking about! Fukk that n!gga Cube"

So the movie did show that Ren was the one that stepped up for the group after Cube left

They did, but it wasn't enough though. My memory is foggy from having only seen the movie once when it came out. But wasn't there a scene where Dre was becoming increasingly frustrated and at one point like the at the height of his frustration you see Ren in the booth. The scene made it look like Ren was basically amateur hour on the mic.

They also made a point to show Cube, Ren, and Doc with note pads and pens in the first part of the movie as well.

nah there wasn't a scene with Ren in the booth looking like an amateur

There was 2 scenes with Ren in the booth. One scene he's recording Quite On The Set and Nwa was all jamming to it and the other scene he's in the booth recording Real N!ggaz and Eazy was hype over it
