Finally put this album on my phone this morning and took a walk with it.

shyt is :whoo:

Beats are immaculate. Got a bunch of lines that had me :mjlol:too. I absolutely understand why he'll flourish with Roc coaching him rather than Busta and Lord Jamar.

Thinking about it - he really reminds me of 'The Hybrid' era Danny Brown.

He's still under Busta, Roc started out in Flipmode Squad.

I know that. I was referring to what he said in this interview

“I fell back for a minute,” Cooks explains. “It felt like nobody knew what to do with me. They didn’t understand me as an artist. [Busta] would say, ‘We need this kind of song.’ But Busta’s different than I am, and he works his records [differently] than I would. And Jamar’s shyt is way different than mine. I felt like nobody understood what I wanted to do, and the shyt I wanted to talk about. So, I just had to step back for a minute.”

“When I met Roc, shyt got real different,” Cooks continues. “Me and Roc think a lot alike. When I met Roc, he was working on his album [Behold A Dark Horse]. Then after that, I did the Conway joint with Buss. When Roc starts sending me beats, I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m starting to feel it again.’”

Meeting Roc Marciano wasn’t Cooks’ first career break in hip-hop, but it was a turning point he highlighted over and over again during our conversation. Marciano’s steady hand and “vision,” as Cooks puts it, steered Cooks towards not only loving the music again but recognizing his strengths as an artist. “Kinda like how LeBron sees the court, that’s how Roc sees the music,” Cooks says when reminiscing on how the two initially met during 2018 while Marciano was recording Behold A Dark Horse.

it's very good.

he's kind of interesting as a rapper, its hard to pin him down.
it was bugging me who he sounded like on the second track. it's Mac Miller.

Roc really did his thing with the beats though. Jim Boeheim is the best Wu-Tang type beat in a long time
there was like 3/4 beats on here were if you pitched or sped up it up, if they heard it, it was getting picked for a Dipset tape.

interested to see what Cooks can do next without Roc blessing him.

It's definitely good to branch out. Eventually we need a part 2 to this tho!

Can we call him a rookie??

We kinda can since this is his first album but he’s been around for a minute. I remember when he was rapping as Aaron Cooks a few years ago. This is definitely the best rebrand I’ve seen in a long time though.
